It's not finished yet!   ;D It was great. The best yet I think. Plenty of new people and really high standard of playing and songs...plenty of variety too. Really enjoyed it. Roll on Christmas OM.

Fantastic event again.

And after a clam-free first song, I thought I might finally deliver live two songs just like in practice ... oh well, there's always next time

That was alot of fun. Great job by all and really appreciate the audience participation.

Wish I had thought about my mic placement before my first song. Thanks David for mentioning that. I had headset monitoring on but didn't pick up on it.

Glad you joined Tosh, love your Cash covers and I think you have upped your guitar play adding all the single note lines.

What I do is sound setup with Zoom before the time. Start your own meeting, setup for Original Sound On, and record the meeting.  Then you can listen back afterwards and fine tune settings.

I don't recall seeing that mic before?  Hope you'll make some AVOYP recordings of your Cash repertoire with the guitar just like today (it was sounding fabulous) and the mic positioned optimally.

Yes, correct. New mic. It's a Shure PGA58 dynamic vocal mic. Had that going through my Scarlett Focusrite Solo and also the acoustic guitar direct into the Scarlett instrument line out. Before I was just using the USB Condenser mic, but didn't know how that would work out on the live stream since I could 't figure out how to get it close to me in my playing room. Seems like a good setup if I can just fix the mic issues.

Well chuffed Richard  :)
Thank you, that was great.

Great night folks, excellent performances and some good fun on the way!
Still some more to learn about Zoom for me, I was trying to learn on the fly and had a few oops’s 😂 Had a job figuring out the Chat to start with, soon get it sorted by watching a couple of tutorials!
Roll on the next one 👍👍👍
Still here, still learning and still a monumentally stubborn old f4rt 😂

Excellent! Can't wait to watch the video for this OM. The fact that I was predisposed ended up being a huge plus, addition by subtraction. :)

A huge thanks and well doe to everyone for gathering and making another memorable night.

Thank you Lula for inviting Kaja along - what a great.

Thank you Brian for inviting Chris along - another treat.
@ Tosh and @ Mike
Terrific debuts

.

It had to be done Brian, it simply had to be done.
I was very conscious of my musical track being all computer generated. Following Paraic's campfire song discussion I looked at that song and thought - yup I can do a full acoustic version. I also wanted you to see how it can work on one guitar.
Man, that spoken bit - so hard to get right. I'm sure I missed our the line about dystopian queens. I wanted to keep the rhythm going even if it was at the expense of the full lyric. I think I just about managed it.

Oh no Clint. Your performance, either a live improv or acoustic songs, was missed, as were Ivan and Robert.  If only you'd all been present then I might've quit while I was ahead and done just one song and achieved a great personal rarity ... a clam-free shared performance.

Really great night and well done to all of you performers for a spectacular show! Enjoyed every single song tonight fantastic :) hopefully next time I will be better prepared! I will try to follow with video asap but might take longer than usual.

Clearly you don't need too much preparation, Adrian, your song was superb, sounded great.

Congrats on the mic, Tosh.

I'm sure with some experimentation you'll figure out the optimal placement. A dynamic is generally less sensitive with more off-axis rejection than a condensor, so you need to sing into the mic.  There is a conventional suggestion to almost be kissing the mic as you sing.  I find that difficult when playing and singing. Last night I tried moving the mic a little further away and I think my vocal level was more consistent, less influenced by my head bobbling about.

I see Maggie (Thanks Maggie) shared a couple of videos, which I'm sure will help, which I haven't yet had time to watch for my own benefit.

I assume you were using a webcam for the visual and feeding the audio from the Focusrite direct into Zoom? If so you can make some videos for AVOYP  ;)   ;)  using OBS There a few of us now doing that. It works pretty well once you have the setup figured out.

Hi folks a bit late to the party but I was exhausted by the end of the show. But what a show.

First off huge apologies for leaving my mic on an invading space I should not have been in.

I hope not, it was a one off and won't be repeated.

Secondly a huge thanks to David, Jason and Adrian for their efforts before and during the show. Organisation pre show was excellant and kept things ticking along nicely. And the show hosting was fantastic as usual.

Last a HUGE thank to all the performers, what a fantastic standard, the best OM yet. From debutants to "seasoned professionals" everyone did a superb job and turned out performances of a very high standard. And thank you to our audience for making the event complete. Well done everyone for making it a successful evening.

Looking forward to the recording.

Have a great day folks and thanks once more.

Cheers

Toby

So annoyed that I missed the OM due to my inability to get Zoom working. I deleted the phone app, I downloaded it again, I deleted my account, I opened a new one. Still nada. It was working before when I was at home but for some reason it doesn’t seem to like the unsecured wifi that I had access to last night.

Looking forward to watching the recorded version when it comes out.

The vagaries of technology, Gordon ...

Now have to share, after being caught by your time zone joke ... when I dialed in just after 9pm my local time, 30min before show time, I was amazed to find all the UK peeps already in the session. Seems like they many joined in 07h30pm local time, an hour early ... is that Scottish time?

Lesson learned and will make some improvements on communicating time for OM5  ;D

Scotland Local Time Details : Time Zone Abbreviations
Western European Time - is abbreviated as WET
British Summer Time - is abbreviated as BST
UTC - GMT Offset
Scotland is GMT/UTC + 0h during Standard Time
Scotland is GMT/UTC + 1h during Daylight Saving Time

Haha yes. Standard Time, BST, GMT, UTC, WET. There must be an office somewhere full of boffins who dream all this stuff up!

Good luck with sorting out the time zones next time David.
