Tuning stability gone out the window
« on: September 20, 2021, 02:23:07 pm »
My Affinity Strat has been pretty solid in the months I've owned it, only requiring micro adjustments now and then, until the last week or so that is.  Now every time I pick it up, every string has gone sharp and needs knocking down and tuning back up to pitch to a degree it never needed before.

Is it the change in seasons?  It's a bit cooler now.  Or some other explanation.  Doesn't bother me beyond the faff of tuning it each time, but curious as to what causes it.
On the beginner path since July 2021.

It’s more likely than not that the fluctuation in the weather is the problem, when the weather doesn’t know what it wants to do I have exactly the same problem myself - it’s a bigger problem when you have a sizeable collection ☹️

I feel like I can detect barometric changes, my joints hurt and my guitar goes out of tune…

How long have you been using the current set of strings? I'd say if it's close to or more than 6 months, they are due to be replaced. Don't forget to stretch the new ones in as that can prevent tuning problems afterwards.

Strings are about 1 month old, yeah I stretched them when I fitted them. It seems to be settling down now so I’m guessing it’s just settling into Autumn.
