Gretsch vs Gretsch
« on: September 10, 2021, 11:28:06 pm »
I’m considering a second guitar to compliment my Affinity Strat so my son can use it and I’ll still have something to play.

I’m drawn to Gretsch due to reports of their fine build and out of the box playability. I also want something different to my Strat.

I’m a beginner so I’m squarely in cowboy chord campfire song territory at the moment, but my musical tastes cover folk, grunge, pop and metal so pretty broad.

I’m weighing up the G2215-P90 and the G542x Jet Clubs.  The price is the same, is one notably superior to the other?

Thumbs up from me on just about any Gretsch. I don't have personal experience with those particular models. My advice would be to get a humbucker guitar to give you more of a tonal difference from your strat.

Thanks CT.  Since posting this I've well and truly gone down the Gretsch rabbit hole and have been looking at a whole host of models.  I've found a local store who stock Gretsch so I think some in-person try-outs are the way forward.
