Riff with bits stuck on!
« on: August 08, 2021, 11:46:15 am »
Morning all! I hope this is the right place for this... if there is a place for it! Basically, I was messing around this morning and found what sounded to me like a riff. So I stuck on some backing in a DAW - basic drums bass and piano, and a horn stab (sampled), and then plugged in a rough solo. Now I really have no idea what this sounds like. I find when I play around trying to 'arrange' I get a kind of ear blindness which means I really can't tell if it's any good or what it needs/doesn't need. So, good people, I'm looking for any kind of feedback. Is this worthless trash that should be deleted? Or is it something that could be worked into something? Let me know what you think, I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks and have a good one!

Hi Andy. This sounded pretty cool to me. Some nice repetition and some good bends, not that I am any sort of expert. I do this from time to time and am never really sure whether it is any good. Nice listen for a Sunday afternoon, thanks for sharing

This is my guitar. There are many like it but this one is mine

Sounds promising and potential to expand.

I'd drop it here https://justinguitarcommunity.com/index.php?board=28.0 with an expanatory note, as you have done. Only observation, let it breathe and don't try fill every beat. Less is more as the outro reflects.

Cheers

Toby

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Nice to know I'm not the only one who messes about like this!

That sounded good to me, Andy. Can't comment on the technicalities

Lots of fun and learning to be gained doing this.  And if you like this then you could check out the Guitar Challenges Improvs area. There a whole bunch of backing tracks to down and jam over. You can also listen to what different folk have played which I found inspiring.
Began the adventure Dec 2016 expecting little, achieved more than I dreamed and am a happy advancing beginner
