Where do you get your strings online?
« on: May 04, 2021, 01:25:37 am »
Not bought any strings for a while as I had spares... Now mine are absolutely dead.

Where has a decent range and decent service? I mean these days I assume Amazon but anywhere more specialised you'd recommend?

Anywhere but Amazon.  A few extra to support the little guy music stores well worth it.
No local store near you? I have two within a short walk, The Denver Folklore center for acoustic and Flipside for electric needs . Local brick and mortar and generally cool people and stores.

No local store out in the sticks even if I wanted to. Happy to support independent business but unless I need to see something in the flesh like a guitar, they need to sell online. Not going into a city or any shops for a year is one of the silver linings of Covid :)

Definitly depends on where you live.

I use my local stores. (KeyMusic or Bax shop).

Unpopular as it may be Amazon is the answer unless you live near a high street store.
amazon are competitive on price and unbeatable on delivery and shipping costs.

If it a bigger order I’d use a music shop online for but small value items the shipping cost, understandably kills this option.

He had some relationship in the past with Andertons - they funded some gifts for Xmas competition and I think Justin was featuring a video reviewing some guitars at their channel. That's how I heard of them in the first place

As others have said, it depends where you live, but Sweetwater in Ft. Wayne often runs sales and usually has free shipping.

An addendum to my nudge to Thomann.

Yes it depends where you are located. But if you know what you want, find the cheapest source, with the cheapest postage and all will be well. I have used Thomann for years and postage is reasonable as its Germany to France these days. But I do order and build a package that qualifies for free post.

If that helps ....................

Cheers

I usually buy strings from a local shop, as I like to support them. Sometimes they don't have exactly what I want (especially for my nylon string guitars), and in that case I just order off of Amazon.

Amazon, and I don't like it one bit. I don't like cleaning up dog poop from my front yard either. It's just how it goes, am I going to stress out about it? Not I dear friend, not I. :)

I also like to support my local shop but at the moment that is not possible. You have to make an appointment to get in and any guitar or accessory that you touch is put into quarantine for 72 hours. I don’t know how any of these ‘real’ shops are going to survive! He has a website and is trying to do sales online but he is a small outfit and the payment postage systems are hopeless.

On the other hand things arrive from Amazon the next day. Unfortunately I think that is the future now and there is no going back!
