Another enjoyable anecdote, Gordon.

So Darrell was both on the money and not 100% correct. But from his clue I'd figured out that "sair" is Scottish for "sore". But glad that unlike the poem of Wingate you had not metaphorically got something stuck in your finger, like the end of steel string.

I thought I could be on the right lines but not quite the correct association. I didn’t want to come out right with what I thought the association was so made the cryptic reference to Walter Wingate, although it wasn’t that cryptic! To get the genuine association would have been impossible; what an amazing story!

Gordon, I never caught that about your nickname. Guess my Texas Southern Accent didn’t help with the translation!

Hey Pam
But with a South Texas drawl you’re more than halfway there with the vocal of any song you want to sing! 😃

Damn that's funny,

I speak dutch (flemish part of Belgium) and never read "sair finger" as "zere vinger".
In flemish, the 'z' is softer; more zzz than sss.
You will be "zere vinger" for me from now on :D

I’ve taken the liberty of copying and pasting a couple of posts from CT(Clint’s) RC into my own RC as a reminder to myself. They came as the result of a post I put on Clint’s RC.
The quotes, one from Brian and one from Clint mean a lot and have made me re-evaluate a bit. Thanks guys.

Quote from me.

Hi Clint
That Rick Beato video was so interesting. (Apart from the fact it highlighted that my knowledge of current music is non existent, I’d heard of 2 of the artists and none of the songs!).

Yes he was clearly prepared and knew what was coming but the way he could pick up the chords and riffs was amazing.
It made me realise the downside of online learning. All very well to try identifying chords, notes and progressions, but when you get totally stuck you have no one to ask or help and the temptation is to just ‘move on’ to something else.
Yes I know you can post questions on the forum and get some help but it’s not the same.

I’ve kind of plateaued at the moment and keep going back to what I already know and can do. Yes I’m trying to progress my fingerstyle and blues impros but my current thought is that if this lockdown ever ends I’ll try going to a teacher.

Your video clip was in some ways very inspiring but at the same time made me realise I don’t actually know all that much.

Quote from Brian.

If you look at what you have learned since you picked up the guitar, you must be well pleased.
If you think of all the enjoyment you have had learning, making music and interesting interactions you've had in the process- what a blast.
You also know that if you continue to practise and keep learning some theory, you'll continue to improve.
It would be so disappointing to arrive!
When you say you want a teacher, I hear you want a real person to talk and play music with. A teacher would be fine, but I suspect you'd do even better with a like-minded jam-buddy who was a bit more advanced than you.
Pity Clint lives on the other side of the pond, eh?  ;)

Quote from Clint.

How to unstick when we get stuck. that's something we all have to deal with at some point. We all have to find our own way it seems. I find if I have five or more spinning plates that I'm working on I never get stuck -- there's too much going on to get to the point of being stuck. So instead of looking for one thing, take some time off and listen to new music, or check out TrueFire and come up with five cool things to work on and you'll be unstuck for a long time. Learning your fretboard and music theory are good things to do while looking for inspiration. Play what you know without using open cowboy chords, or pick out the melody, that'll unstick ya!

Cross-pollination ... RC entries and interactions to the next level ... Good one, Gordon  8)

I watched the Beato video last night. Very impressive. Did he do that transcription in real time as he was listening ... who knows? Video shot to suggest he did. Potentially some pause in the recording between songs, certainly to change guitars. Doesn't really matter whether he did or prepared beforehand and then shot the video. Doesn't change the point being made about developing and ear, transcription, knowing progressions.

I think having direction is essential, in the form of what and how you want to play. My direction is towards singer-songwriter solo acoustic performer, rather than say blues-rock band guitar player able to play rhythm and lead, weave like Keef and Ronnie. It shapes my learning and guitar time, what to work on and what to look at with interest and curiousity.

And while you take stock and consider your path Gordon, I hope you'll continue to do what you've been doing ... always love to listen and watch you play  :D

An impressive list Gordon.

Something I love is that all of these fine recordings were done on your phone. Minimal tech and tinkering.

So much joy looking back over your list of recordings, Gordon, and remembering the recordings
