As suggested by the songs for this module I tried Dance the Night Away with the Mini Barre A but it just feels wrong. The normal A chord is just a lot quicker to change to than the barre version. There is a lot more hand movement using the Mini Barre A to D and back.

Usually I use normal A for simple chord songs. Mini A barre comes in handy once you move on in the future to more bluesy stuff. If you are still at the beginner level keep that in your head for the future that there is a way to play A chord like this :)

Keep on rockin' my friends

Context and convenience should win out - if open is more suited on one song then that is okay.
