Justin's music app play along doubt
« on: July 23, 2020, 07:17:21 pm »
Hi, I'm a bit confused after using Justin's music app, when the play along indicates me to play a chord, does that mean I have to play the whole bar(4 down strums) or just one down strum for that particular chord?

And How do I start strumming 4 beats in the bar using the music app?

Please help.

Justin's beginner lessons make it clear - when starting out a steady tempo and good rhythm and getting the changes in time is all important. Playing one strum per bar is the way to go when getting the fundamentals. Once you have achieved some competence then begin to play four strums per bar.

So:

1               2               3               4
Down
Strum

1               2               3               4
Down            Down            Down            Down
Strum           Strum           Strum           Strum

Absolutely this, have worked my way up to stage 8. Having fun going back to the earlier stages and playing those songs with more complex strumming patterns. I still struggle with some fast tempo songs, but realize those will get better as I practice more.

You can go to the “Strum” tab to check the strumming pattern. The complete pattern shown there represents one line in the song, and one is one bar, 4 beats.

Something that caught me out was time signature & tempo. I was having heaps of trouble with House of the Rising Sun. Default tempo is something like 102/120 & I was assuming 4/4.  Really struggled with playing. Then googled. The Animals version I'm familiar with is 78bpm at 6/8. Now I'm getting somewhere with it.
