Yes, avoid the Yamaha ERG.

The typical and most well-known guitars you will find at your price point that should be considerations are:
Yamaha Pacifica 112 or even better 012;
Squier Standard (or maybe Affinity for less money) Strat or Tele;
Epiphone Les Paul.

I referred to an ad with a Fender G-Dec. That amp is old tech but was okay in its time so would be alright to start if you don't have one. But don't limit yourself to ads with amps and don't buy packs or Fender Frontman G10 amps or Marshall MG10 amps either. If you want an amp then we can advise on that also - perhaps in a new thread in the amps section if you want to start that conversation fully.
