2019/20 Cover #46 (Masters Of War)

#46 is a really great song from the Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album (1963). The lyrics is powerful and as relevant today as 1963.

Struggling with both vocals and playing in this one. Thought this should be an easy one but very difficult to catch the spirit of the original. Tough one to sing with so many words and some high notes. It is played in Fm on the recording but I play it in D#m. It is very repetitive with just a few chords and not much dynamics, but the song is really all about the lyrics.

Don't like this one very much, it need much more work. I will post it anyway and go on in my covers list.

Edit: after a few playthroughs I like it a little better, not that bad as my initial feeling maybe  :)  For information the song is in drop D tuning, the low E string is tuned down to D.

Think you did quite a reasonable job, Johan.  Not an easy one to pull off.  I thought your strumming was pretty steady, like the original.  Maybe just work on which strings you are targetting at different points, low or high.  Well done on trying something challenging and do so well.

Johan, as sure as night follows day you keep rocking on and I’m glad you are because this was great. I think you’re being a bit too hard on yourself in your critique, it sounds pretty damn good to me. Those repetitive chord sequences are really hard to nail without drifting off or losing the timing and you do really well on this one. An unusual, but fine choice. Nice one!

I agree with b1rd, it sounded good and you’re being too hard on yourself, especially considering you’ve been knocking out one a week for almost a year.

Thanks David, b1rd and Dave.

I wasn't sure about this one, but after some more listens it has grown on me. Didn't like it all first, but I think it turned out quite good in the end.

Maybe I am hard on myself, but my playing and singing is not at the standard I would like. But I know its the same for all of us, we all wanna get better.

David P: Thanks for pointing out targeting different strings at different points, I think thats what Dylan does a lot. If I return to this song (and I think I will), I'll work on that to make it sound more interesting.

Next up some more bar chord training, an indie gem from the 90's by a Swedish band no one of you have ever heard of. It is played in the key of B.
