Never forget the first time I heard VH1. Starting with Eruption. I can still picture where I was and wondering how the hell he made a guitar do that. Followed by Ain't Talkin bout Love, Ice Cream Man, Really Got Me.  Album was bought instantly.

Was also the same time and place I first heard Hawkwind. Cool day.

EVH must have been my first introduction to the harder side of rock. His playing was a real sensation. RIP!

Whoa wasn't expecting that ...

Sad loss at an early age. Such an iconic sound and energy. It was always good to see groups influenced by the like of VH keeping hard rock alive and kicking. RIP  :'(

Now going back to the sounds of my mid teens, hidden in amongst the now so called "classic" rock.

Eddie Van Halen!

Died aged 65 after a long battle with throat cancer.

Yes, very sad indeed. :(
An absolutely brilliant, innovative & influencial guitarist. A very humble guy. May he RIP.

For those of you that haven't seen this (I did post the link a while ago) & if I'm allowed a repeat, I think it appropriate to put it here... I think it's a great interview.

That 'Beat It' solo...  wild.

It's like Mike asked, "Eddie, can you play me a solo?" and Eddie replied, "I'll play you eight of them Mike.".  And off he went.

Good songwriter, I'd like to dig into his unreleased demos Wolfgang now has.

This is a little different, but it fascinates me.

Lyon Gardiner Tyler Jr. passed away.

"Who?", you might ask.

He was the grandson of John Tyler.

Again, you might ask, "Who?'

John Tyler was born in 1790 and became President of the United States in 1841 after William Henry Harrison died in office.

His grandson died last week, but, get this, his brother, Harrison Ruffin Tyler, is still living.

Makes you realize, especially in the US, how close in time what we consider history is.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/grandson-10th-president-john-tyler-dies-180975992/

This is news because John Tyler was president, but I wonder is there many (any?) others alive today that have grandparents born in the 1700's.

I loved Eddie but he will always have a place in my heart forever. He is one of the reasons I picked my guitar 10 yrs ago. He and Angus! I am just in the midst of learning Unchained. Such a great song. You left such a legacy. You gave me hours upon hours of great joy and happiness. Thank you. See you on the other side!

I have to say that I wouldn't know a VH or EVH song having never been a fan. There is a lot of talk about Eruption being a great guitar solo but not heard it. Better check it out!!

I did see an interview that was posted on here and it does appear that he could play the guitar quite well :)

Spencer Davis RIP. A big part of my growing up.

Spencer Davis introduced the world to a 17 year singer called Steve Winwood.

And mine, Stevie Winwood was and still is ace, one of the best blues singers from the uk! A bit of info for those who don’t know about the Spencer Davis group: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/sixties-music-legend-who-gave-19135505

RIP Jerry Jeff Walker.
Mr Bojangles was a classic folk rock song from 68 and I have enjoyed learning to play it. Just one of countless songs that got stuck in my head as a youth.
We all have those right ?

Jerry and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band playing it live 50 years later:
