2019 Cover #38 (Utan Dina Andetag)
« on: October 31, 2019, 08:07:49 am »
#38 is a song from swedish band Kent. Its a love song and a song that means a lot to me. The lyrics is swedish so may not be that interesting for most of you. But here it is if you wanna take a listen.

https://youtu.be/oJLgu57yjV4

Tried to play and sing it in original key (G), but the chorus contains some high notes which I can't reach, so I put a capo on 5th and sing it a few steps lower. Suits my vocal range better.

Using downstrums only in this one, but have some problems on where to put accents, its a bit random where I place them. Need to work more with how to strum this one, where to put accents and how to use more dynamics.

What a beautiful song, Johan, and a wonderful performance.  I don't see too much wrong with the strumming.  In fact, I'd love to be able to play so rhythmically in that style. #38 is a definite winner.

Johan, Wow, that was really nice.  A very enjoyable listen, indeed.  I think you are doing very well with pumping out one a week.  It's pretty amazing to me that you can learn one a week and have them sound this good.  Well done.

Nice one Johan. I could sense the lamentations of a love song in your playing. Enjoyed your strumming variations as well. Do you want to translate the words of the chorus for us?

Cheers.

Your best yet I’d say. Nice clean guitar and your vocals are so much better, you know your voice a lot better now I guess and you’re not straining.  There’s more emotion and grit in there, maybe because you’re singing in Swedish. Well done  :D

Johan, this was a very lovely performance. Too bad my Swedish is too poor to understand the lyrics. LOL
Effective strumming and nice smooth singing. Well done!

That was lovely Johan, playing and singing both. Glad you changed the key, it's perfect for your voice. Google translate is certainly imperfect, but I found the lyrics and plugged them in anyway. I then realized I didn't actually need the lyrics, you had conveyed the meaning and beauty of the love song in your performance. Again, lovely. I also think it's your best performance to date of the ones I've seen.

Really nice, Johan. My one suggestion would be to tap your foot more so we can see you moving to the beat. Pretty song, well played and sung.

Thanks David, Dave, Barend, b1rdland, hilts, Marie and Lynn! I am impressed that you took time listening to this one in Swedish. And it seems that many of you think this is my best one. Great to hear that, a sign that things are improving.

About the singing, the latest songs has been in the right vocal range for me making the singing sound ok and not as strained. Its the higher notes around D4 and up that causes trouble. So if I can stay lower than that it usually works ok. But sometimes I also like to push myself and to improve range I guess I need to try and sing higher than D4. I actually recorded a version in the original key also. Sounds ok for most of the song, some parts I think sound better than in this version, but there are some notes I can't reach.

Barend, the song title means something like "Without Your Breath". My interpretetation of the song is that its a love song about a special person (not necessarily a happy love story) and you are not able to breath if you cant be with that person. An attempt at a translation of the chorus:

I can not even walk, without your breath, filling up my lungs
I can not even stand, without you watching on
And translucent, pale and grey
Thats me, without your breath

Sounds great, you have some passion and grit in your vocal. And well done on using the capo effectively.

RE: down strum dynamics, try soft strums on all but the 2 and 4 where you hit harder.

What is that you say? I can't understand the words.... JK, not sure if you have an accent on this on in Swedish or not.

Play seemed pretty solid to me, vocals suited the song and were pretty good. A nice job all around I thinks..
