$590,90 dollar acoustic guitar
« on: October 09, 2019, 06:12:12 pm »
So as I learn more about my acoustic and see that the overall tone is not really beautiful as other guitars (it's a $85 dollar guitar), I'm planning on a upgrade, and I saw some reviews, brands and models, I found this one:

https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-1204318216-violo-takamine-folk-eletrico-gd20-ce-ns-fosco-tampo-solido-_JM?quantity=1#position=2&type=item&tracking_id=d5cbe32b-f890-4940-9c81-83193edf60ee

It's R$2.429, about $590,90 dollars. Here in brazil is EXPENSIVE, but for U.S I think it's standard. Is this acoustic any good? Because I really like it. Is a good upgrade?

Takamine are generally excellent acoustic guitars and it will definitely be a significant upgrade in tone and playability.

This model also is electro-acoustic so you can plug it in if you need to amplify it in the future.

Do you have the opportunity to try out any guitars in a shop? Pretty much any guitar in this price range should be an upgrade for you.

By the way, that does seem expensive for this guitar;  it's about 150-200 USD than you could get it from retailers in the US or UK.

Cheers,

Keith
Guitars: PRS Singlecut S2, Fender Tele Lite Ash, G&L Legacy Tribute, Freshman Apollo 2 OCBX, Gibson SG Special P90
Amps: Bugera G5 Head, Boss Katana 100
All sorts of other stuff.

On my city there's not much instruments shop, there's one that I go when I need stuff but I don't think it has this particular guitar (I mean, I never searched for it), on the internet I can search for reviews and stuff, I'm kinda used to buy stuff on the internet. That shop doesn't have many eletric guitars, so why bother about acoustic. But maybe it has, I'll contact the shop tomorrow by WhatsApp.

That's very expensive indeed, but it's Brazil we are talking about. I didn't get the 100-200 USD, what do you mean?

In any case, it's a future upgrade, it's expensive, I definitely cannot afford right now, "me" as in "my dad".

He means it's about that much cheaper in the U.S. or UK. For example, you can get this model of guitar from Sweetwater for $449.00 (i.e., about $142 cheaper than the price you listed), and there's a new one (with free shipping) listed on reverb for $399.99 (i.e., about $191 cheaper).

You would probably have to add import duties and taxes to the prices from sellers out of Brasil.

Actually, on double-checking, I was mistaken. I was looking at listings for a GD20 CE NS, rather than a PF5 CE NS. I apologize for the confusion.

I did find a (very positive) review of the PF5 CE NS, here: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/electric_guitars/ibanez/pf5cent/27468/  That individual paid $330 for the guitar in 2004.

For what it's worth, the GD20 CE NS listings I had found were these (but again, I was mistaken and this isn't the same guitar):
Reverb
Sweetwater

Thanks! I do feel likes it's complicated to buy stuff outside of brazil.
