October-November-December 2019
« on: October 01, 2019, 07:58:48 pm »
Last year we made this period's competition a festive theme.
So we are not repeating that.
But there is a loose connection if you want to look for it and seasonal / festive songs are welcome.

For the period October to December the theme is:

Songs & Music That Make You Happy & Smile

It is an 'open' tournament with virtually no restrictions beyond the basic theme.

It could be a solo, single-take audio / video recording.
It could be a multi-track production of epic proportions.
It could be a duo or group playing together in a room.
It could be a collaboration of folk from across the globe.

The remit is simple ... make yourselves and make each other smile.

Additional information and stories behind the recordings, and stories behind the song choices etc etc are always welcome.
But keep it to the basic idea of - 'I like this, it makes me happy, I smile when I hear / play it'.

 :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I like the contrast to the last one!

A question on multi-person projects - do they all have to be members here or do you just need one 'leader' to actually submit the thing? Say the guitarist decides to submit a performance video of their band.

I really like you've announced the new contest while the previous is still being judged, to avoid a gap. Thanks.

Hi John.
I think the easiest and fairest ruling to apply here is that which applied last year:

"At least 2 of the entrants must be forum members, one of whom must have been a member before October 1st."

I'm not 100% sure on the prizes Justin has in mind though I'm certain we don't have the same huge stack of prizes to give away from Justin's bumper sack this year. So the allocation of prizes will be simpler and more limited.

Cheers Richard.

I've got some ideas for a solo project but if any of the regulars would be interested in a collaboration discussion... A duet or maybe someone who doesn't sing for instance... PMs are welcome.

NOTE

This is NOT a Christmas competition.
It just spans the month in which Christmas falls.

The entire duration is October 1st to December 31st.
You have until the  last minute of the  last day of 2019 to submit.
Judging etc will take place in January.

NOTE 2

This could be your last chance to enter a competition for a while so if you're undecided and are procrastinating for another round I would advise you to jump right in and go for it.
There's no time like the present.

At risk of reading more into Note 2 than I ought to, I'd been wondering.  Have seen a steady scaling of this from monthly to 3 in this year.  I thought maybe it would end up as an annual event, timed to take place at a (Ha Ha) less busy time of Justin's year.

That said, there is AVOYP and while posting there doesn't receive any feedback from Justin or the carrot of a prize, one still receives lots of feedback and encouragement.

I know there is no external deadline to light the proverbial fire... I'm always happy to send anybody who needs that pressure a regular reminder :)

Hello good folks.

I am fully aware that this competition closed on 31 December which is now over five weeks ago.

I can only send out a huge public apology for the fact that Justin has not yet found the time to listen / critique / judge and move towards announcing a winner.

Lieven and I have been trying to reach him but I think with work trips to NAMM, Finland and other commitments we have not yet managed to successfully pin him down.

Once again - huge apologies. I feel your disappointment and frustartion at the long wait.

Richard
