How long?
« on: September 29, 2019, 03:19:05 pm »
So I have been fiddling with guitar for years and own pretty nice guitars, but I haven't taken anything seriously. I am a beginner and really don't know any fundamentals. I only know the E Minor scale essentially and very simple songs (power chords mostly). I want to actually start from the ground floor and learn for real now. How long should I spend in each lesson to get it down and be decent at it?

As long as it takes...

Read "When to move on to the next stage?" here.

This is probably the most important bit.

You should be able to play one or two of the songs from the songbook, even if you have to start and stop a little bit here and there.
Guitars. Fender Highway 1 Tele: Fender Shortboard LE Mustang: Ibanez AS73 semi-hollow: Ibanez SR370 bass: Squier Affinity Strat: Squier Jagmaster.

I aspire to be a decent player as well. It's a good goal. Ultimately you have to enjoy the process and the journey, or else why bother? It's far easier to just turn on the radio. Get a groove going with Justin's beginner courseware and then check back.
