2019 Cover #25 (Stand By Me)
« on: July 15, 2019, 10:07:16 pm »
Back from vacation in Spain and finally found some time to record #25. Tried to use the slap strum in this one. Pretty difficult technique, I have practiced it for years to get it reasonably ok. Got it down pretty well here, sounds pretty much like a snare drum, but got some problems with the pick spinning when doing the slap. Don't use the exact same rhythm pattern as Justin suggests in his lesson of Stand By Me, I use a constant down-up-"slap"-up pattern. Singing is so-so, some pitch problems, but I did my best.

Trust you enjoyed the holiday,  Johan.

Good effort here, which I enjoyed. The hit was mostly really crisp and takes some doing to keep it super consistent.

I also like the video...clear, simple, natural, which I prefer to some of the soft focus almost misty appearance in some of the others.

Well done.

Slap-strum coming along just fine.

Nice job, Johan. Chord changes, percussive hits, singing, strumming...all done well.

You did a nice job with this Johan. Strumming is strong. I also like the clarity of your most recent videos. I haven't played this one in quite some time. I think I may have to noodle with this today. Thanks!

Hi Johann
Hope you're keeping well. Liked this the also strum sounded crisp and you're managing it with minimum movement which must be a good thing. I give it a hell of a belt and my hand moves loads when doing it. Keep it going you're nearly halfway.

Thanks to all of you, I really appreciate that you listening to my videos and giving feedback. The slap strum is coming along ok. Still not as solid as I would like, usually takes some warming up/repetition before it gets solid, I wanna be able to use it more freely without even thinking about it.

Like David and hilts I also like the clarity of the recent videos. I have changed the phone to record the videos with and the new one seems to give much better video quality.

I just finished toe tapping along to this and I enjoyed your interpretation.   Your timing is spot on, and you kept a consistent rythym with your strumming.  Well done.  Sorry I'm a bit late to this one.
