Re: bass guitar entries.

These decisions are not mine alone to make.
I will alert Justin and Lieven to the question and report back with our collective thoughts.

No bass.
Sorry.

No bass.
Sorry.

Glad I never said that "I'd eat my hat" if there'd be an issue with playing a bass.  ;D

Hope you'll still let rip on the bass and share with us, Fox ... your performances and productions are always a treat.

No need to apologise close, and I'm glad it's been clarified - I mentioned opening a can of worms, as others might have started inquiring about various other stringed instruments.
Hope you'll still let rip on the bass and share with us, Fox
That's still the plan :D The restrictions from this competition are inspiring.

Me too.
Now that you've found the hat as a video prop I think we'd all miss it! :)

Bass isn't really a guitar anyway is it?  it's barely a musical instrument if you ask me.  OK this way I think it is

Although no looper to create a backing track.

Not that I was intending to enter this competition anyway. But I'm slightly surprised at this. I would have thought looping would have been acceptable as long as it was "live" (e.g. part of the performance, no prerecorded loops).

I guess, to an extent, looping confers an unfair advantage on those who have the facilities and can do it, especially as it's possible (with fx) to build up a whole orchestra of sounds.

Maybe a specific looper based competition would be an idea for the future.

Cheers,

Keith

Aargh, only just saw this. I wish I could set the forum up to notify me of new posts.
Could I request you post an updated in the long running thread when making an announcement? All of us following should get emails etc.

This contest seems to suit what I normally do so I look forward to it.

Can I ask on what areas you'll be judging particularly? Is it kind of like busking, you just want to 'feel' the performance? Or are you more interested in playing skill or some other area?

And into the last fortnight of the contest. Loads of great, stripped back, unplugged, naked performances.

But after all the lengthy discussions as to what that really meant, confirming that all your pedals and effects were in, other than a looper, we have only one entry played on a pretty clean electric.

So guitar slingers who all advocated for use of pedals etc, time to set up and let rip  ;D Looking forward to some guitar pyrotechnics before Oct 1st dawns.

Ditto to David.
I've been mighty busy and relatively quiet around here he forum lately but always give these posts a listen when they first appear even if I don't post any initial comment.
I can't wait to properly listen to them all in earnest for my official role.

Omg one week out from the end of the competition and I finally find a song I'm dead keen on that I'm fever pitch motivated to make my own and enter the competition

What can I say but I work well under pressure

Watch this space for a hastily put together and rehearsed entry

Thanks Max! I've been on a quest to find a song... You know how it it when you find the "one" that gets you excited! I've had a few I've been practicing but they've all been "meh".

It is Bala, closes on Sep 30th.  Scroll back to find the discussion of the theme.  In a nutshell it is a single live take.  No mixing. No editing. No looping. No backing tracks.  But you can play electric through Fx pedals and use amp Fx.

Thank you David. I remember I saw this one a while ago and I thought it would’ve ended. And I didnt know pedals were allowed. I remember that it was supposed to be a raw recording. Anyways good to know. My to choose the song!
