Janee, original
« on: July 13, 2019, 11:44:52 pm »
This is one of the first songs I ever wrote, so you might be sick of it, but I don't think I've ever posted a video of it before. I tried to do it in one take, but it ended up too long, so I took out the bridge. It was just another round of the verse and chorus with no singing. Haha. I figured you wouldn't miss it.

Hope you guys like it.

Janee was a girl who wanted to see the world
She lived in this tiny town but she didn't want to settle down
But then she saw him there
Wearing black jeans with his messy hair
He took her to a play
She said you make me want to stay You make me want to stay
You make me want to stay
But I won't stay

She took off on a flight that left in the middle of the night
She got a job in a bar where she saw him playing guitar
And he took her to his bus
She said you can hang with us
He took her by the hand and said,
But you can't come with my band
You can't come with my band
You can't come with my band
Cuz we got plans

Janee was a girl who wanted to see the world
She quit that job in the bar
She got her own guitar
And she looked him in the eye
She said you make me want to cry
She whispered in his ear
You almost made me want to care
You almost made me care
You almost made me care
But I don't care

Great video Lynn. Can't say I'd get tired of listening to this as its a great story. What the video brings is seeing your energy and enthusiasm. Thanks for your late night treat.

Cheers

Yeah I agree that was really quite excellent.   I think you might just be a singer songwriter.  If you can fit it in with your art etc.    Really cool Lynn,  I like it alot.   Well done.   I guess you'd have a whole bunch of tunes you've written?

I have to say it's good to see Janee got rid of that gun and swapped it for a guitar.

Lynn, that was great playing and singing and lyrics.  A really fine performance.  Very enjoyable to the ears.  Ok.  You didn't tell us the inspiration for this one.  Care to share??

i like it a lot. Nicely done. Everything is on point, but most of all the rhythm and vocals are top notch.

Lynn, thanks a stack for taking time out from painting to record this for us.  Lovely to listen to, blend of your singing and the guitar works so well.  Never tire of taking in your performances. A Sunday morning treat for me.

I loved it!  I wish I could write songs like that.  And sing like that.  Well, maybe not, since my voice would need to be deeper (ha ha).

I don’t recall hearing this before ( I must be too ‘new’), it’s a great song; a ‘proper’ song. Guitar and vocal sound brill, the quality of the recording is excellent too. The song brings to mind Springsteen’s Nebraska era, his best work (other than ‘Darkeness..........’) in my opinion, so you’re right up there Lynn. Nice one!

Thanks Toby! I see so much energy and enthusiasm in some of the videos here, like Brian's and cagn's. I tried not to let myself get too self conscious. Part of that is getting it in as few takes as possible. The more I try to make it perfect, or look good, the more stiff I become. I'm glad you liked it.

Haha Alex. I never pictured janee with a gun. That's funny. I have written a lot of songs. I realized I am a storyteller. I never knew it because I'm pretty introverted and have severe stage fright. The thing that made me realize it happened recently, when I became friends with Nate. Nate has cerebral palsy and can't speak, but can answer yes and no questions with his eyes. So I tell him stories all day while I work, and I sing and dance for him. Haha. He's helping me with my stage fright.

Thanks Dave! This one is pure fiction, although Dave wears black jeans and has messy hair . Purely coincidental.

Maggie, I'm so grateful you're willing to be my audience. You're a peach.

Thanks Clint! I've just brought it up three frets with a capo, so I'm glad you like the vocals. My voice is changing. I'm glad it sounds okay.

Thanks David! I needed a break from painting flowers yesterday. I was in studio painting all day. Thanks for asking for a video. I wouldn't have done it otherwise.

Thanks sunjamrblues. Haha. As I just said, my voice is getting higher, so maybe I can get to your range soon.

B1rdland, very cool being compared to Springsteen. I always felt this was my Tom Petty moment. Haha. The recording is just my old dell laptop's internal mic and camera. Glad it sounds okay.

Thanks again everyone!

Hey Lynn. Good recording. You looked at ease. I thought I remembered this, and then found it on an earlier post. Both performances were great.

Great performance, you inhabit he song and move it right along.
I like that it is short and bittersweet.
You don't over complicate things.
And the lyrical resolution really works well for me.
