Anyone tried a ukulele bass?
« on: June 27, 2019, 11:35:19 pm »
I've been seeing some youtube videos with ukulele bass, and they sound surprisingly good (especially plugged in). I'm thinking about getting one. Anyone have experience with these?

Hi JWC, I have a friend who plays double bass as well as a bass uke in a band. He's not a tall man and his build is slight. His band mates claim he plays the uke to make himself look bigger.  ;D  I can get the details if you want. He loves his uke and it sure has a big, beautiful sound plugged in.

Sure, I'd love to know which uke bass he plays, especially if he likes the instrument. Thanks!

I'm waiting to hear from him JWC, weekends he's busy gigging. Will pass on the info as soon as I get it.

Thank, and no rush. I'm just doing a little research before I decide if I want to buy one. I'm not finding many in local stores, so I thought I'd see if anyone had a experiences, pro or con.

I’ve got a Makala uke bass which is actually a less expensive version of the Kala U bass, they are nice to play and sound great through an amp but unplugged they are very quiet- great for practice but not for playing with others.
Personally I like it and the only thing that I find a bit of a negative is the rubbery strings, the do stretch a lot and are fairly expensive. Maybe I would go for a short scale bass if I were doing it again, but not if I wanted to play in a Uke band!
My singing sucks so I’m learning Guitar and Ukulele, it’s fun 🌟

Myself and my housemate had to get one which arrived last week.  This sounds like a double bass when it's through  a PA and   acoustically it's average sounding .

Sent from my brain using a device, invented by a much larger brained person.

Hey JWC, the uke is called a U-bass and the brand is Kala.  There's a range, this is the one my friend plays.

That Kala U-bass is gorgeous. Definitely putting that one on my radar.
