Digitech JamMan Stereo and Fender Mustang IIIv2
« on: June 06, 2019, 09:12:08 am »
Hi peeps.

Twas our 42nd wedding anniversary on Tuesday and I took the opportunity to treat myself to a Fender EXP1 expression pedal for my Mustang IIIv2 and finally get a looper for practice session jams - been using Reaper. So after some comments here a few years back and online reviews (and a good price at Thomann) I opted for a DigiTech JamMan Stereo.

I was planning just to using it as a standalone but following Sairfingers Boss Katana thread, I realised I will be able use it with my Mustang and layer different effects when over dubbing. My knowledge of using external pedals and patching them is pretty non-existent, mainly being a modelling amp user, so needed some guidance of how to plumb things in. Had a look at the Fender help page for this but could not make head or tail of the diagram they offer
https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/207582423/Mustang_V.2_EffectsLoop.pdf
But looking elsewhere, I can't find any info out there, that shows me how to patch the looper into the amp using the FX Send and Return sockets. Also nothing in the JamMan Owners Manual about using the unit in an Amps FX loop.

I know it might simply be intuitive as Amp FX Send to looper mono input, the looper mono output to Amp FX Return but I came across this video that suggests it far more complicated than that ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arPnXGXuHKU plus I can't correlate the Trio's inputs/outputs to those on the JamMan as this guy describes them. Hey maybe its just me doh or maybe they are completed different.

I want to be able to record overdubs with different effects but can't find anything specific to the Mustang III and JamMan together bar patching GTR->looper->Amp main input, which means all layers will have what ever effect is selected on the Mustang, which is also what the Mustang/Trio video suggests if the looper is just added to the FX Loop, yuk !

So any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers

Toby (still got the GAS  ;) )

The Trio+ is a bit of a complex beast as it has multiple outputs as well as it's own send-return loop. That video should probably be ignored for anything except the Trio itself.

A normal looper should just sit in the FX loop with the FX send going to the looper input, and the looper output going to the FX return. That's it. You then plug your guitar into the amp as normal.

Note that modelling amps may require the FX loop to be configured appropriately to make sure the looper is correctly positioned after the effects.

For the Mustang III, see https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/articles/214505423-How-can-I-configure-the-effects-loop-on-my-Fender-Mustang-III-V-V-2-to-match-the-function-the-Fender-Mustang-III-V-V-1-

Cheers,

Keith

Thanks for clarifying Keith, its much as I expected just needed confirmation. I'd seen the references to the Amps Utilities FX Loop Position set up for Normal or Looper Pedal not but sure if that can also be done via Fuse as well but no big thing.

Anyway I can grab some cables now and get thing set up for a practice session later.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers
