2019 Cover #15 (Love Minus Zero/No Limit)
« on: April 25, 2019, 08:45:35 pm »
Fantastic Dylan song from the Bringing It All Back Home Album (1965). The playing could be better with more feeling and dynamics but I think the vocals worked pretty good in this one. Never really understood the title but if love is infinite the mathematical operation equals 1? Nevermind, its a great song.

Just yesterday I was singing this song to myself - without guitar unfortunately - as I happened upon the chords whilst trawling through some old folders on my computer.
Nice one Loefgren and congrats on the one a week.

One of my favourite Dylan songs ever.

I think this is a great performance, and one to add to my own list of songs to learn.

Vibes from me!

Good job, Johan.

Overall for me it all worked and have nothing particular to highlight.  I did like your vocal interpretation and I find Dylan tricky.

I take your point about aspects to enhance but would take those as general aspects to develop, probably true pretty much for every performance.  So more of an ongoing, long term focus than an issue on this performance, given my sense of where you are as a performer.

Well done.

Dylan has such a large catalog of music, that I guess that explains why I am not familiar with this song. But I liked this a lot. You're right, your vocals are great and the strumming is indeed solid. I'll check out Dylan's version. Well done Johan!

Thanks for the vibes Mr Bumble! Yes you should learn it, the song is pretty straightforward with open chords only in this key.

Wow thanks Richard, I am really following your mantra this year!

David: Thanks for listening, I feel I could do a bit better with the playing, but you are right, more feeling and dynamics in the playing is more of a long-term project. I think it will come more or less by itself when you get more and more comfortable with the playing and can focus more on the performance instead of getting through the song.

Hilts: Glad to introduce you to this song. Thanks for the nice words about strumming and vocals.

Hi

Good cover.
Just seemed effortless and smooth playing, whilst singing was solid.

You didn't quite manage the Zimmerman 'sandpaper and glue', but smooth rendition  :)

I like this a lot Johan, no that's not right, I LOVE it. There's a magical blend of easy to listen to tones (room ambience helps a lot as well as the images on the curtain behind you),  attitude (loved the look you give us at the end  ;D) and  a musicality I've only heard hints of before this recording.

This recording grabbed me and made me listen. That's a performer Johan. Pleased to meet you.  :)

This epic weekly commitment you've made is sure paying dividends.

Thanks Digger, Brian and Maggie! Glad you liked this one.

Maggie: Wow I'm blushing  :)  Playing is getting easier and I can focus more on the performance and I think thats the reason I can show a little more attitude and express some musicality. That's not possible when you barely can play. Takes time to learn this instrument... Still a lot to work on for sure, but recording weekly has helped a lot.
