Hurt - Johnny Cash
« on: March 24, 2019, 08:41:19 pm »
Here is another Johnny Cash song. Actually, it's his cover of Trent Reznor / Nine Inch Nails. I've recorded and shared this song a few times in this group...however, as was noted the last time by somebody in this forum, I still needed some work on fluidly going back and forth between the picking parts and the strumming arts. Not perfect by any means, but I feel like this is an improvement. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Very nice and really suits your voice. Thought you pretty much nailed the playing on this one. Practice will only make it better.

Really nice Tosh. You have a real knack for songs that suit your voice. Strumming on point as usual. Just a great performance all around.

Thanks for re-doing, Tosh.
Great job of one of my favourites.
I've just placed a mental book-mark to cover this myself one day  :)

Well done, Tosh.

I went and checked out the version from 10 months back and concur with your assessment ... very significant progress.  Your transition back to the verse from the chorus is way more fluid.  I think your singing is also more fluent and relaxed.

Perhaps not yet at the same level as some of your other Cash covers.  Still an enjoyable performance and showcase of improved ability all round.

Man that's a really good cover and well delivered. You mention a few stutters but overall this was a great job.

I love the JC version of the NiN original and his version always gives me goosebumps.

Now I've said many times I struggle to sing and play but this songs is my Alma Mater and I'm still not happy to record me singing and playing it, maybe one day. But it gives me a vehicle to play and  sing and gain confidence.

Your efforts are an inspiration to take that further.

Cheers Tosh !

Nice JC vocals, Tosh, song sounding good. You’re getting there for smoothness, for sure. I thought on the strumming that you’re emphasizing the middle strings and missing the bass, so thought you could try bringing the 5&6 strings in more. That could be a nice balance to the rich vocals as well.
