Folsom Prison Blues (Lady Inmate Version) (Cover)
« on: March 07, 2019, 10:35:30 am »
Haven't posted for a while, I've been busy on Stage 5..... and the Blues.... I likey!

I've been time poor lately with starting a job with longer hours and a busy life with 2 kids under 5... (think you can even hear the baby grizzling at bedtime in the background). But I lurk and listen a lot so don't worry I've got my s on you

B7 is still tricky for me but I'm putting it to good use in this song.

As the title suggests, I've changed a few lyrics to suit myself 🤣

Also trying the new shuffle rhythm (the boom chicka with alternative bass notes is still a ways off... Like the year 2020 maybe haha!)

Of course there are my signature fluffs (the guitar kind) cos you know... I'm filming

That's nice!

The strumming is pretty good and regular. The alternate bass takes some practice, but it will suddenly be there.

As to B7, I have problems with that one too so I often cheat and use Bm7.

I also like the changes to the lyrics. It's made it your own song.

Thanks for posting and vibes from the other side of the world.

I really like it. Good steady strumming and nice work on B7. What fluffs??? (I can relate though)

Way to make this song your own. You're doing really well so keep it up!

Excellent performance, Danni, I enjoyed the way you slowed this down and worked your triplet shuffle. Vocal delivered with feeling. Hats off for maintaing your rhythm while getting good phrasing of the lines, which I think can be tricky on this one. Doing well on B7. Didn't notice fluffs.

Nice strumming on this one Danni, sounds good! B7 ringing out nice and clear too. This is a great song for strumming along to, and then when you get to picking out the bass notes it will be a new song to play again :)

Good Work Danni. Your playing was clear and steady, you held the rhythm well. There were a couple of parts where you looked to be in the groove (around 1:50 or so is where I noticed it).

Cheers

Oh mama sing dem blues! There's promise in this genre for you Danni. You're so much stronger, steadier, more present. I'd love to see more attitude, there were little glimpses. No apologies maam y'hear?

Danni

Listened late last night, then the PC hung while I was posting.

Thought you did a really good cover and played it solidly throughout. Nice approach with the tempo slowed down, gives it a whole different vibe. Vocals were on point as usual and a nice take on the original - never heard another female version but no doubt someone will have done it.

And yes there is a great feel about the blues and its influence on pretty much everything that has followed it.

Cheers

Toby

What a question Danni. So many artists and flavours. If people start to respond will be a thread on its own.

You could try Eric Clapton Me and Mr Johnson.

Or maybe Rolling Stones Blue and Lonesome

Or check out Justin's list of recommended albums  https://www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/justinguitar-s-top-10-blues-albums-re-666

So much to explore....
