Coming up to my year’s anniversary on the forum this May, I thought it would be nice to thank all those who participate and encourage us on our journey.

What better way than a song?

https://soundcloud.com/user-562765097/the-forum

I was full of good intentions of practising and getting this ‘perfect’ for the right date, but once I have the bones of a song down, enthusiasm and impatience make me press the record button and share.

Guitar and vocals recorded on my phone separately and mixed on audacity

Apologies to all those I have mentioned/omitted (delete as appropriate)

Lyrics:

Scrolling down the forum page
So many mothers trying
I’ve been here for a year now
and my fingers feel like crying
Justin wept as he told us
that the competition’s dying
Cried so much my face was wet
cause I knew he was not lying
I played YouTube, Soundcloud- favourite melodies
on electrics, acoustics and ukuleles
My brain hurt like a warehouse; It had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things to store everything in there

and all the new vintage guitars
And all the loud quiet guitars
And all the rubbishy guitars
And all the fabulous guitars
Never thought I’d need so many guitars

A girl my age went off her head
when she saw what GAS had cost her
If the bank hadn't pulled her card
Well, I think we could have lost her
A newbie with a broken strat
asking how to sound like Hendrix
Had to click out of that crap
Cause we all know it’s practice

I think I heard you on my SoundCloud
Playing solos- cool and long
Jamming and wailing and sounding so fine
Don't think you knew you were in this song
I feel old and drained, and I’ve stalled in my progress
So I load the page and I start up a new thread
on pace, Road case, a funky base walk
I miss you, you're beautiful, so join me let’s talk

On the forum, let’s meet up now
On the forum, just don’t have a cow
On the forum, we’re oh so polite
On the forum, we can stay up all night

On the forum, I can be Close2u
On the forum, be-Lieven’ too
On the forum, oh here’s David P
On the forum, come and join me

With Jesper and Johan and good ol’ Max Mue
Kasper and Roman, look Oldhead’s here too
Garfield and Pilgrim- there’s Keith and and there’s Lynn
Clint, Toby, Fox, Darrell, Steve come on in!

Here’s Maggie and Balla and Pkboo3
Jono and Mari and Hilts17
Lbro, Tosh, Digger, Kontenda and Neil
Come in Mr Bumble, just how do you feel?

On the forum…

Excellent!

That's made my afternoon on a day when winter is trying to make a comeback.

I'll listen again later (probably more than once) and thanks for the name check (feeling better, recovering from a sneaky virus).

Hope you get lots of good vibes......on the forum.

Certainly good vibes from me.

Wow Wow Wow, Brian. Not even a year here and you have become a Forum Favourite.

This production lifts your game to new heights. Your playing sounded great, great singing as usual and awesome job of blending your classic lyrics with David Bs. And a well balanced mix.

And of course I am tickled pink to be amongst the honourable mentions  ;D

Jeez, what can I say about a song that mentions me and Hendrix! Wait till I tell my wife. LOL. I am totally flattered to be in such great company as all the other members. Great lyrics and vocal delivery. Very strong strumming all the way through. What a super strong performance in all aspects. Well done and thanks again for the mention.

Haha I have a very large Cheshire Cat grin on my face. This is sooo good. The lyrics are brill and the sound quality is up a few notches, it all sounds so nice and warm and polished. You’re just a year in and you’re performing and recording yourself and sharing it all with us, I’m really enjoying listening and watching. Thanks for sharing the song, a nice (early) first anniversary benchmark.

Congratulations on your first year. Were you not here I certainly  would " miss you, you're beautiful"

Without the added dimension of visuals artfully laid out to distract, I'm struck by the richness of your voice. Wow man you can sing and you can sing good!  You're a clever man Brian, your gift of the gab,  your growth  as a musician, your inherent, seemingly effortless ability as an entertainer.

But your voice, oh how I'm liking your voice. Glad you're exploring the infinite mysterious labyrinth called recording, because this production really does showcase your talent and shines a light on your singing voice. There's something about the tones, timbre ... shows hints of richness yet to be revealed.

Smiling a little happy smile to hear my name awwww.

Going back for another listen.

Brian, this one made my day for sure. I dont know how you do it but you have some special talent. Everything was good lyrics, melody, singing and guitar accompaniment. Confident performance with lots of humour. Especially liked the singing, really good. Of course flattered you included my name. Thank you. Were gonna remember this one for a long time.

Thanks for the mention Brian, the song is brilliant, made my morning. Took me back so many years, one of my favourite Bowie songs and you've done it justice.

Close the FORUM and the whole INTERNET for that matter as I think we have a winner!!?!

Utterly brilliant. I'm almost certain I've offered up praise on another thread for your song writing ability but if not, man you know how to throw an entertaining song together. The guitar backing track you created meshed perfectly with the lyrics; I really like the touch (or was that tap?) at the end to finish off. I feel that with each passing performance there is vocal growth to compliment your improvement in guitar playing. Keep going. :)

Good vibes.

Brian I don't know how you come up with this stuff. I think you must be mad.
Never joke about mental health- my wife is a psychiatrist.
Here are some Freudian slippers I made:

Haha I have a very large Cheshire Cat grin on my face. This is sooo good. The lyrics are brill and the sound quality is up a few notches, it all sounds so nice and warm and polished.
Thanks Steve- I have mixed feelings about trying to make my output sound nice.
The reason I did separate recordings on this, was impatience. I’m not quite able to play and sing the whole thing smoothly in one take yet.
Still, I was happy with the outcome, especially as this ditty is not primarily about me- but all of you.

I’m impressed with the level of quantity and consistency of your offerings recently.
Keep it up!

...
Thank you Maggie.
Too much praise to quote
So just thanks  :)

Brian, this one made my day for sure.
Worth doing it for that alone  :)
Cheers

Brian you are a gem, you’ve caused me to smile ever since you started here!
...it makes me feel proud to be here and most importantly the whole thing does the forum justice
You should feel proud, Darrell, as should we all.
Justin’s site and this forum have taken me from zero to here in less than a year- most importantly- by having fun  ;D

Thanks for the mention Brian, the song is brilliant, made my morning. Took me back so many years, one of my favourite Bowie songs and you've done it justice.
Thanks Keith, you’re welcome.
Ziggy Stardust’s opening track, Five Years, was my first exposure to Mr. Jones as an impressionable teenager.
I still have not quite recovered  :o
There’s only one man in my eyes that does him justice and that’s Mike Garson, his piano man, who’s currently touring with old band members. I had the pleasure of seeing them in Liverpool last year. Wow.

Close the FORUM and the whole INTERNET for that matter as I think we have a winner!!?!
I have seen this phenomenon in comment sections before, but have never won the internet myself.
Indeed praise of the highest calibre!  ;)
Seriously, glad you enjoyed.
Thanks for the vibes (all of you!)  :)

Absolutely brilliant. Every word connected with me. Well played and sung, and your songwriting is superb.

I obviously spend too much time on the forum. Haha.
