2019 Cover #8 (Söndermarken)
« on: February 25, 2019, 07:34:07 pm »
A swedish song this time, same artist as cover #1.

The song has 12 verses, no chorus. Maybe a bit monotonous and more like a poem than a song, but it is supposed to be that way. Pretty happy with the playing and the vocals even if there are some mistakes in it for sure. Tough one to remember the lyrics and the order of all the verses, so sometimes I need to look to the left at the lyrics. Chords are just C-Am-Dm-Am-G repeated over and over. Some more dynamics would lift it a bit I suppose.

I use a capo on 2nd, no high notes in this one, but its a bit tricky to sing some low notes in the original key.

Strong performance, Johan.

I think the singing was big on this one and you delivered with energy and feeling. Guitar was a steady accompaniment, well played as you say.

Nice performance.

David is right, the singing makes this work.

My Swedish is a bit weak but it sure sounded good. Strumming seemed bang on. Good job!

Thanks David and good vibes to you, for always taking time listening to others recordings and give feedback!

MrBumble and hilts: Thanks, it means a lot with your feedback. I am impressed your taking time listening to a song in Swedish.  Its a pretty tricky one to sing and catch the vibe of the song and also lots of words to remember for sure, none of the 12 verses are the same, but I am happy with the vocals this time. The playing is very basic but works fine here. Sure there are lots of things to polish up and develop, but as a "campfire version" its ok.

Well done Johan

I think you got enough dynamics in there with the slow strumming at the start and I enjoyed the 'aahs' at the end  :)
Personally, I would find it a nightmare to try and vary the strumming in the main section with 12 verses!
Auto-pilot is your best friend while singing and playing simultaneously.

Are you like me and require a number of abortive attempts due to the 'record' button being on, or are you able to ignore it?

You are going to have a huge repertoire if you keep this up.

Really cool Johan :) Liked it a lot!

I don't know many Scandinavian artists (except 'obvious' ones like ABBA), but I really enjoy Moddi's and Daniel Norgren's music. So thanks for introducing another musician!

Thanks Brian and Max,

Brian: When I record I usually need a couple of takes to get it ok, but not to many. Usually I can ignore the "red light". I try to record songs I know pretty well and also keep the arrangements easy so I can play it without to much difficulty. Open chords and old faithful works for a lot of songs!

Max: I have not heard of Moddi and Daniel Norgren I know who he is, but I have not listened much to him. Maybe I should check them out? Winnerbäck is one of the biggest artist in Sweden, singer songwriter with songs that are relatively easy to play for beginner guitarist. And my wife's biggest idol, they are from the same town, went to the same school and she seen him live at least 50 times. I like him a lot as well.

Wow, thanks for the additional info! :)

If you want to take a listen:

If you like bluesy stuff, I think you're gonna like Daniel Norgren:

Johan, All I can say is, outstanding!  I really enjoyed that even though I don't speak the lingo.  Honestly, that's ready for open-mic night.  I think you'd have everyone singing along!  Really nice.  And congrats on No. 8.

I have no idea what you were singing about but it sounded really good. You’ve mastered the open chord work by the look of it it looked pretty easy for you. Looking forward to #9.

Dave: Wow thanks a lot, I don't feel ready for an open mic yet, but at some time in the future I might do it. Need to start to play live in front of family and friends first, I havent done that very much so far. Its mostly you on the forum who have heard/seen my playing….

B1rdland: Thanks, open chords works fairly well (if the song dont have B7, takes ages to change to that one...). The song is a hate/love relationship to his hometown about growing up, going to school, parties, forming a band etc. and in the end leaving the hometown.
