Where to start with harmonica
« on: February 17, 2019, 12:06:50 am »
Harmonica is a pretty simple instrument to play. It always boils down to where to start, and this is a great place to start:

I bought Jon Gindick's harmonica book back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and YouTube had yet to exist. There are other great lessons and teachers out there, but he is still the best.

Excellent - thanks for posting that.  We all need to get better at playing our blues harps.

I have a harmonica laying around my music room just calling my name. There's a couple of Neil Young tunes that I thought I'd try to learn it for. I haven't got any further than thinking about it. I'll give this a watch when I have more time.

I can bend a bit in hole 2 and 3 draws but the "2nd" position thing still confises me if I don't play it for a while. Of course you quickly find out it's hard to do blues without bending in first position :)

The lower keyed harmonicas tend to have longer reeds and are therefore more bendable. A, Bb, Eb and such are highly bendable harps. An A harp is a must have for guitarists as you get a highly bendable harp for E blues, B slant and F#min coverage.
