Rutbuster Episode 5 time 26:33 and the G-Major Scale
« on: December 02, 2018, 08:11:23 pm »
Hi,

I bought the Beginners Course package including the PMT. I Am day 4 into the course and the PMT and cannot bring the comments of Justin from the Rutbusters in sync with the PMT: In the episode he explains, that for a song in the G-Major key, one can use the chords: D, C, G and Aminor, Bminor and Eminor. So, when I look up the notes in the G-Major scale, which are A, B, C, D, E, F# and G, the selection of the first three chords makes sense to me, as D (A, D, F#), C (C, E, G) and G (G, B, D) are all using only notes from the scale. But chord Ab (G# C D#) uses notes not from that scale (similarly the other minor chords he mentioned) and I don't understand, why Justin would recommend them...

What am I missing here?

Thanks for any explanation,

  Michael.

I can answer myself, I was wrong, noting the AMinor, Bminor and Eminor chords. They are Aminor (A, C, E), Bminor (B, D, F#) and Eminor (E, G, B) and now the comment makes complete sense.

Sorry for my premature asking, before reading page 16 for the fifth time...

Cheers,

  Michael.

PS: I am probably not going to write many things here, because the captcha before EACH search and EACH post and EACH edit even when I am already logged in, is really getting on my nerves. Maybe you could consider to move to Google Captcha v3 which would improve that a lot.

Welcome to the forum

You are confusing A minor and Ab (A flat).
The notes in the G major scale are G A B C D E F#
The chords are G Am Bm C D Em F#dim
Am is A C E all are in the G major scale.
Ab is Ab C Eb not G# C and D# there are no sharps in flat chords and Ab is not
in the key of G.
