Tuner for a bass ... advise please
« on: November 29, 2018, 02:30:52 am »
I bought myself a bass a week ago. 8) Just a cheapie, but it's enough for now and I'm having great fun with Red. I've been trying to tune Red with the clip on I use with my acoustic. I can't get the E string to register as an open string so I've been using the harmonic at the 12th fret. I use it for the others as well to check.

I phoned a bass store and they recommended this. https://www.basscentre.com.au/collections/tuners/products/tc-electronic-polytune-clip-tuner   The video at the bottom of the page is very informative.

Before I spend more money, I wanted to check with our bassists on this.  :P

Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks.

Electric bass?

Buy a plug in tuner. A Korg GA2 will do the job, and is much cheaper than that clip-on. 99$Au is waaaaaaaay too much for a clip on tuner - even a Polytune. :)
Guitars. Fender Highway 1 Tele: Fender Shortboard LE Mustang: Ibanez AS73 semi-hollow: Ibanez SR370 bass: Squier Affinity Strat: Squier Jagmaster.

I didn't think beyond a clip on, so thanks for this joueur de guitare. I found Polytunes for $69 AUD.

Appreciate your help  :)

Also look at the Boss TU-2 and TU-3 which are pretty much the industry standard for plug-in tuners.

Cheers,

Keith

I have a polytune clip-on which you can put in bass mode.
I am very happy with it and it is the only tuner I ever recommended.

I have a rehearsal with the company band next hour.
If I don't forget, I'll let the bassist try it.

I've always used chromatic guitar tuners for my basses, they've always worked fine.
At the moment I'm using a D'Addario NS Micro Tuner which I bought from Justin's online store :)

I really appreciate your effort Lieven, thankyou so very much.  :)  I think this is what I'll buy. It will suit my needs in a simple, easy way .... clip and tune.

Thankyou Fox, very useful info and coming from a bass player as experienced as you even more valuable.
