Deck the Halls.
On the last line of each verse (the la la la bit) there is a very fast change required from D to G to D (DGDAD). I’ve found that substituting Dsus4 for the G works well and is a lot easier and quicker. If you play it with an upstroke you get the G note on the 1st string.

If you adjust that slightly and lift your first finger from the 3rd string you can play a 4-string G chord.

Brilliant thank you! That works really well and I can see where the 4 string G chord comes from. Seems so obvious once someone points you in the right direction! This is what makes the forum so useful, beginners like me can learn from others with more experience.

Winter Wonderland.
Loving Justin’s chord substitutions. Dmin7 for the first G7 and especially D9 for all the D7 chords in the verses. Gives a real jazzy feel to the song. Not so sure about the Cmaj7 for C substitution though as Justin says maybe that’s an acquired taste!🎅

Winter Wonderland.
I’m coming round to the Cmaj7 substitution! If you move from C to Cmaj7 at the end of the first line of the verse I think it sounds great.
