Counting Ties
« on: November 08, 2018, 06:29:52 am »
I'm find myself having problems counting ties. Say you have a series of notes like: 1/8, 1/4, 1/8 tied to 1/8, 1/8, 1/8, 1/8.

Would it be
ONE AND AND AND FOUR AND
or
ONE AND AND THREE AND FOUR AND

Do you count beat three since you are holding it, but not actually strumming it?

The 2nd one. You are strumming beat 3, it's beat two you are missing. It's up to you if you count the 2, you are not strumming it but your hand will still be doing the movement to enable you to complete the next upstrum.
It goes [email protected] (2)@ [email protected] [email protected] . Time wise you also count the missed beat, the [email protected] lasts for the count of the missing beat. I thought ties were used for crossing bar lines, I could be wrong though.
