Pick Question
« on: October 14, 2018, 09:30:23 am »
Hi there,
I just started out a week ago and it is really going well. I am using the extra thin picks Justin recommends but I sometimes have the feeling that I can't really get the strings form the D string upwards really going with the thin pick. I often can't really hear if I got something slightly wrong with the left hand because the string hardly moves at all. It is almost to forgiving.

Should I use a thicker one or should I stick with the thin picks to make learning strumming easier? Is it a good idea to change picks back and forth depending on what I want to focus?

How much pick is sticking out? Most beginners hold the pick to far back
so it is to floppy. Also how are you holding it? Is your index finger straight
or is it bent?

Index finger is straigt. Pick points in the direction of the index finger, thumb is 90 degrees across it. There is about 5mm sticking out at the lower side (index finger) and about 10mm at the upper side (thumb).

It may be time to move to a thicker pick. Also choke up a little more so the
thumb and index are more or less equal will stiffen the pick up.

I got an assortment of picks/sizes. Gator grip, Dunlop Max grip and some others. You have to try a few to find what you're most comfortable with.
