So, it looks like I'm in a band
« on: October 09, 2018, 08:33:08 pm »
There's a special event coming up next month, and they were looking for local bands to perform at various venues in the area. I was asked if I fancied being involved and said yes.

So, now I'm in a band.

We've already been practicing for about 6 weeks and things seem to be going in the right direction. It's a big challenge, but I'm enjoying it a lot and we have already agreed to do another performance at Christmas.

It's also quite out of my comfort zone as I tend to listen to blues and mainstream rock music, and that's what I tend to practice at home on my guitar. But in this band we are going to be rocking some heavy metal. It's not something I thought I would enjoy, but I am.

Currently we are practicing 2 evenings a week to make sure we are ready for the event. I've got a couple of videos from one of our practice sessions, but they are a bit sloppy at the moment. I might post up something up when I feel that I've got it under my fingers better.

And I'm enjoying the post-practice pint at the pub over the road too!

I'll keep you posted with more details nearer the time.

Cheers,

Keith

Keith, I am absolutely thrilled for you.
Fantastic.
The 'playing in a band' feeling is a great one.
Long may you groove (to paraphrase Neil Young).

That is awesome, Keith. Congratulations!
Being in a band is so rewarding and pushes your game to another level.

I get what you mean being out of your comfort zone playing metal. I experienced the same when joining a Country band. But no matter which genre you play, your playing will improve and you will find techniques Common to your more familiar genre(s).

Wow that’s wonderful. I’ve only played with a band twice (literally just two songs) but those were one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my guitar journey. I really wish I could get myself in a band right now. Good luck! Look forward to seeing your gigs!

That's great news and I'm very happy for you, Keith.
The only way this could be better would be if you posted a video of one of the gigs :)

To borrow Jesper's old sign off  ;)

Great news Keith. Funny how what you listen to and what you are enjoying playing can sometimes be poles apart (not so much in this case). Good luck and long may it continue.

Cheers

Amazing. Playing in a band is phenomenal experience, and you learn lots.
I'm at the moment taking an adult band course in one of the local music schools. I am pushed to learn songs and styles I would not do in my own and I'm challenging my knowledge.

Lots of fun

Great, These guys how lucky they are having you in the band? :D

You guys have a Fb page, soundcloud or something?
What is your bandname?

About playing out of comfort zone; I always found playing it is more fun than listening to it :D
Since i no longer play guitar in the heavy metal, my vocals got "rougher" as well. Looks like you roll into this faster than you know it!

Keep us posted!

Keith

Saw this and thought of you ..............

This popped up in my recommended viewing on Youtube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuqvZDDm_bk

may be useful, as you adapt to a new genre in the band. I certainly found it interesting and it gave me an insight/explanation for some Black Sabbath sounds, progressions for back in my yoof. 2b 5b ahah, eureka !

Strange as I was watching a broadcast from my Zen Buddhist channel !

Cheers

Hi,

Congratulations.
Is it a 'real' band or a 'wannabe' band? Touche! Kidding.  :P ;D
From reading a multitude of your posts and from observing what many on this forum think of you, Keith - you deserve all the praise that comes your way.
No doubt you will nail the gig and subsequent gigs. Hopefully you will post a video of them.

Kind regards,
Rufus
