Fret too high
« on: April 12, 2018, 10:26:43 am »
Hi all

I have a poorly seated 16th fret, it is visibility raised under the low E string and only seems to affect the note A played at the 15th fret, low E string.
I was thinking of getting a fret file and filing the end of the fret a tiny bit.
Is this an obviously bad plan or is it workable.

It is not really a problem as so far in my repertoire  it only seems to be Black Sabbath who use that note, so I would be looking for a cheap fix.
(Guitar tech is not an option, I would replace the neck if I needed to.)

So file the fret, leave as is or is there another way.

Thanks
Jono

I would try to re-seat it first, a tiny spot of super glue and clamp it down as best you can, if you can’t get it to seat that way you might have to carefully remove the fret, clean the slot out and set it back in using super glue, then see if it needs further attention.
My singing sucks so I’m learning Guitar and Ukulele, it’s fun 🌟

Well I that worked a treat. Thanks  Darrell. ( Used a hammer and block of wood to readjust the fret height ).
