Hi Batwoman,

I came across this thread some time back and as I'm always interested in hearing about high end guitars (like all of us :)) I looked up Pete Walcott's website and watched the video reviews of his work.
Now it just so happens that I've been looking at treating myself to a high end guitar as a retirement present for over a year without actually finding one that I thought was right for me. While researching I discovered a few people in the UK run guitar making courses and it hit me I would love to do something like this.
I'm rambling, so I'll cut it short.
I spotted the guitar making link on Pete Walcott's site and I've been in touch with him with a view to going out to Queensland next year to be guided to making my own guitar :)
So many thanks for making me aware of this guy.

If anyone is staying with me after my overlong post: choosing to go to Oz instead of doing one of the fine courses here is to do with our desire to visit Australia again. We spent nearly 4 great years in Melbourne when I worked there on a contract. We have always planned to return for a visit. We'll stay a while.

KR

John

John I'm so thrilled and excited to read your post. I'm delighted to introduce you  :)

As I've said all the way through my roadcase, Pete is an exceptional luthier and man. His integrity is faultless, his ability and skill as a craftsperson and artist are top notch. He's also very generous in the time he gives his clients. He's spent hours with me making sure I was getting the guitar of my dreams. I can't say enough about how good this experience has been and how thrilled I am with the guitar.

Please keep me in the loop, I'd love to meet you. Feel free to pm me.

We didn't smash a bottle of Veuve Clicquot  on her hull. Instead he played this lovely song Pass It Along by Scott Cook. Yes I bawled, a lot.

This guitar came from a timber, from the body of a tree
Through the workshop of a luthier, now it's on loan to me
And it's good company after dinner, and it fits my hands just fine
But some day another singer with a pair of hands like mine
Will coax out songs much prettier still hiding in its strings
And sing stronger, braver words than I could ever sing
And folks are gonna love it, of this I'm almost sure
So I'll take good care of it, cause I'm borrowing it from her

Pass it along, pass it along
May it land in careful hands when we're gone
You carry it for a moment
But time won't loan it to you for long
You don't own it, pass it along.

Wow, I had a couple tears too. What a wonderful journey, enjoy your time together

Her name is Cedar Clear Sky Ocean Deep and here's a video of her making.

Heartfelt thanks to DavidP, generous man, talented man that you  are. David volunteered to make this video. He knows what a luddite I am when it comes to this sort of stuff.

At the end of the video you'll find the song that Pete sang as a blessing the day I became custodian of Cedar Clear Sky Ocean Deep. Thankyou David, so very much. I hope Vincent and Theo didn't feel neglected in the time it took you to produce this.

Nice video batwoman, DavidP did a great job.  Guitar is beautiful and sounds so sweet and, as she ages, it will only get better!  Congrats on your new baby, she'll provide you many many years of enjoyment  :)

Thankyou Sweed. David sure did us proud. In the 2.5 weeks I've had Cedar the sound has changed already. She is an absolute joy to hold, play and look at. One of the best decisions I've made to have a guitar made for me.

;D glad to have helped you out with this, Batwoman.

I should add that the music backing the picture slideshow was extracted from a review of a Walcott PW65 guitar published on Pete's website.  I'd have credited the player but for the fact that I couldn't clearly make out his name on the video.

Wish you years of musical joy playing Cedar and entertaining others.

I’m lost for words!!! Most unusual for me......
What a lovely story to keep, you’re absolutely right about the best thing you’ve done, it really is exceptional and most important unique, you can’t put a value on the connection you’re building now, it’s priceless!!!
Nicely put together David, very sensitivity done and very much to the point, kudos!!!
My singing sucks so I’m learning Guitar and Ukulele, it’s fun 🌟
