Work is great. I'm learning so much. I still haven't done anything particularly artistic, but the work is physical and mental and I really like it. It's fun.

This is me today, with my first finished instrument.

I'm not sure the photo is coming through. Haha. Might be just as well.

Good to hear, Lynn, I'm delighted for you.  Sure the picture worth a look, so hopefully in due course it will come through ...

I'm still learning a lot at my job, and I've successfully completed my first lid interior, including the lettering, which was the thing I was most worried about when accepting the job offer. Caused me some freak outs and sleepless nights. It's very stressful because there's no way to correct a mistake. Got a big thumbs up from my boss, so I'm really happy.

As I was painting this, I remembered my middle school teacher, Miss J, who taught my class calligraphy. I googled her recently, and saw that she had just passed away. Thanks Miss J, and rest in peace. I couldn't have done this without you.

I'm not sure if my photo is coming up.

I can't remember if I mentioned I have a new painting studio in my house. One of our housemates moved out last month, and I inherited his storage space. I'm really lucky, both to have this awesome space, and to have the new job.

Thanks for the update, Lynn.  Super happy that all is working out so well.

Both pictures came through.  Space looks brilliant and the lettering looked grand.

Thanks David!

I just finished another painting. It's called Still Life With Dave. If I haven't been on the forum much, this is why. Painting it took up all of my free time over the last couple of weeks.

It's sometimes hard to know when a painting's done, but I think a sign is when, like today, I painted for two hours and it didn't look any different. Haha.

I look forward to catching up with everyone's songs and progress in the next few days.

Lynn

A fine pair, Lynn  ;D

Your paintings look great.  Would love to see them in the flesh, so to speak

Took me a minute to get that, David. Haha. The original pear is not by me, but by a local artist I know. I did a fairly good representation of his work, I think. He sells a lot of paintings. They're well priced and he paints them assembly line style. Very different than me. I spent weeks on this, and I'll never sell it.

LOL ... glad the pun got a laugh

Hmmm ... "assembly line" .... that seems off for me but I can appreciate the need to earn a living vs being more inspired by one's own creative muse.

At risk of becoming philosophical ... the need to make a living tends to bring an element of "commercialism" into the creative world that IMHO often leads to poorer art ... be it paintings, music, novels.

How might he paint if the living he wants was taken care of.  And of course maybe I am being presumptuous and reading more into the phrase than I ought to do.

Somebody asked me if they could buy one of my paintings ... the one with the daisies ... I said no without hesitation, didn't need to think about it.  But in deeper need .... maybe I'd respond differently.  But it would be hard to sell my paintings.

Interesting thoughts, David. I feel the same way. I'm lucky that I can paint for myself. I am lucky to work part time and have enough time to paint without worrying if anyone will want to buy it. Yes, taking that into consideration would affect my creative process, to try to paint what people want.

The artist who did the pear literally does paint assembly line style. From the way he described it to me, he does a dozen or so at a time, painting them simultaneously. He paints the same things over and over. He makes a lot of money and seems happy, so it works for him. I'm not sure how he'd paint if it was just for himself.

I'm not at the point where I could sell one. The thing that might motivate me to will be if I run out of space to store them. Haha.

That painting of yours is really good. I'm not surprised someone offered to buy it.

Yup, can pour a coffee, herbal tea or glass of red wine and indulge in fascinating conversations on this sort of topic.  I do love the philosophical :)

And thanks for the second "like" of my painting ... I still enjoy looking at on the wall, both aesthetically and with the sense of achievement, having developed enough skill to produce.  I guess learning guitar, making recordings of songs and being able to listen is similar.

Here's one by Keith. I guessed who it is after the hint there's an airport named after him.

Oops, it loaded sideways. Don't know how to fix that. It was correct on my screen. Sorry Keith!

But he'd spill his tea.

Hmmm, replied earlier but don't see it ... shall try again.

Thanks for sharing,  Lynn. Luckily I could rotate my laptop  ;D

I reckon this is Beatle John. If correct then the airport is news to me. And confirms a great likeness, Keith.

If incorrect then an awesome likeness of somebody I don't know  ;D
