Guess who  ;)

Picture not best quality ... its framed behind glass and has a reflection of a ceiling fan in it  :-\
I'm going to take a stab at this. Haha. Neil Young?

It's a beautiful drawing, just all those guys kind of looked the same in the 70's.

Well at least if my attempts to play and sing his songs aren't close enough, at least the portrait was recognisable  ;)

I made a collage for a new song we are working on called Welcome to my Forest. I'll post the song soon. Keith's putting on the final touches.

Looking good, Lynn. Immediately made me think MC Escher, earliest work.

My brother is into drawing (He's an artist, sculpture. Better than I am on guitar, has sold a few pieces) and has one website he uses a lot, like Justin Guitar for drawing.  If you interested I'll ask him for the URL.

Interested in critique ..... if you are read next sentece, otherwise. Keep sharing as I enjoy your work. Even if you may have to add a small guitar in the bottom left corner  ;)

On the eye, I liked the top eye lid, the way it clipped the top of the eye ball.  It seemed like a realistic sketch so would suggest doing the same on the bottom eye lid next time, for a more natural appearance.  Picky point but I remember my art teacher making a lot of the fact that tge pupil is cut off top and bottom by eyelid rather than being a circle normally.

David, look at your eye in a mirror. Keep looking at your eye, but tilt your head down, as if your drawing paper is below you. Your iris will stay in the same place as you hold your gaze, but as you tilt your head, you will start to see the white of your eye below the iris. That's the position I was in when I drew my eye. The more you tilt your head down, the more white you'll see.

I think what your teacher was saying was for a specific straight ahead position.

Ah-ha, a self portrait of the eye...didn't consider that.  Was indeed thinking about straight on. And I'm no expert, it must be said, probably best to keep my opinion to just how much I like the work   :)

No, you shouldn't. I really appreciate your feedback, David. You don't have to be an expert to give it! Now you understand what I did, which is cool.

Interesting. So we see you looking at us as though we were you. At the same time most of us will look at that and have our attention drawn by the hand wondering what it is doing?

Thanks for the links, David. Your brother looks very talented. His sculptures look great. I like the wire ones the best, but they're all cool.

I've done a self portrait. First one in probably 30 years (yes, I'm that old.  ). At first all I saw were the flaws, but now it's grown on me. Freshman drawing class evidently made an impact. I keep remembering things I didn't know I knew, which is really cool.

Great likeness, Lynn, based on all I can remember from the videos ... back in those days when you still strummed the odd tune and shared videos  ;)

Funnily enough I just came to the end of a marathon song-playing session ... one of which was Wish You Were Here which I was inspired to try to learn after your posting of it on the Gibson.  Playing it much better than I recall playing it back then ... though that may be a combination of age and wishful thinking.

But I digress ...

Thanks for the compliment of my brother's work.  I shall pass it on ... he'll be delighted.

As for talent, yes, I suspect he always had some natural ability.  This was evident in his primary school days.  In hindsight, he might well have done well to have taken art through high school which was an option, just don't recall it being discussed (there's that age thing again).  He ended up with a more academic set of subjects.

That aside, he is a great subscriber to the school of deliberate practice ... knowledge + practice + feedback ... and you will learn and develop skill.  He's been at this sculpture quite some time, first as a hobby and now that he has retired (I struggle manfully to keep my envy in check) with the goal to be a recognised artist.  has sold a few pieces, some on commission, so his dream is becoming reality.

I look forward to hearing your Wish you Were Here! I don't even remember how to play it anymore. The cover songs have mostly fallen by the wayside as I write more songs than I can play in a practice session.

I started feeling uncomfortable with the videos being public. I'm sure you understand, as I think you've only posted one, if I recall correctly. I made most of them private, but the links from this forum should still work. But I think I've flattered myself with this self portrait. I look the same as I did at 20. It's a miracle! Haha.

I am lucky to be doing this for my creative enjoyment and personal growth. I've had a business in the arts and selling my work had an impact on everything, from concept to execution, at least it did for me. It became about making things I thought people would buy, rather than what I wanted to make. It was way less fun than I'm having now, especially with songwriting, but now also with the artwork.

I'm glad your brother is finding success. That's wonderful.

I do, Lynn, felt more scary posting a video rather than just the link to SoundCloud.  Though in my case, I'd probably get over that for the possibility of getting feedback on my technique from a physical form perspective, as well as how it sounds.  I may have an old webcam floating around, so maybe I'll have a go at a few videos if I can figure out how to get all the bits and pieces sync'ed up.  But no promises and also no idea when I met get myself set to record WYWH ... need to practice those riffs again.

This is the season of miracles ... so why not  :)  I'll stand by my opinion that it is a great portrait. :)

As for turning what one does for love and fun into a commercial venture or at least starting to sell ... you're right.  He wrestles with this as well.  What he wants to say as an artist and being true to that without selling out to rank commercialism.  The artists dilemma ... be it visual arts or music for that matter (don't get Neil Young started on MTV and songs being sold for use in commercials  ;D ) Luckily he is not trying to make a living, so slightly less pressure from that perspective ... more wanting recognition as an artist ... I think.  We have interesting Skype chats about all this ...

Thank you!

I'm really enjoying drawing. I just realized I've picked up right where I left off. It's like riding a bike. Or playing guitar. Don't worry, I'm still playing guitar. Haha.

This one is called A Cup of Tea with Oscar.

Love it, Lynn, my kind of playfulness and a great drawing.

Look forward to these as much as your musical collaborations with Keith.
