010 2017 (December) - Another kind of Auld Lang Syne
« on: December 02, 2017, 09:59:08 pm »
I wish I had more time to work on this... but I just don't :( I need my beauty sleep.
Not that I can aim to win, I'm not a competitive player. The main goal is to deliver a giggle or possibly two ;D

And if you prefer SoundCloud, or just dislike bad video editing, click here instead.

Also, notably my first recording trying to use Steve Harris' two-fingers bass technique.

Fox, Now that was an interesting take on that song.  Great guitar, and I actually liked the video.
Too bad you couldn't shred a little. ;D

Hey Fox

Mission accomplished on all fronts ... many giggles, excellent video and great sounding different take on the old classic.  I thought your playing and overall production was excellent.

I started watching before reading the last part of your post. And as I was listening I was thinking hmmmmmmm if Iron Maiden ever made a Festive Season album then this is just how they'd play it.

Then read comment about Steve Harris technique .... not sure what that is but guess it is integral to Iron Maiden sound, and you got it down.

Fine job !!

Thanks everyone for listening, hope I could give you a chuckle :D

@David: Iron Maiden is definitely the main source of inspiration, I deliberately stole a riff from Aces High for this medley ;D

Fun fact about the video: the last images show a snow globe with a unicorn. That is officially the national animal of Scotland, which is of course where Auld Lang Syne was written in 1788.

Thanks @chix, @Garfield, @bickb, @emby and @willsie!

@oldhead, that means next time I'll shred more. No, moooooooar!

Then read comment about Steve Harris technique .... not sure what that is but guess it is integral to Iron Maiden sound, and you got it down.
By the way, that technique consists mainly in touching the strings at an angle using only the index and middle fingers, having the action so low that even a light touch makes the string hit the frets, producing that typical "twang".

This caused my missus to go absolutely mental :-[ Even though I play using headphones, the constant TLACK TLACK TLACK noise had her screaming at me after four hours straight of playing (I only had one day to record the bass part) ;D

That was awesome! I can't even imagine how you play that fast. And the video was great, too. It really enhanced the song. Especially loved the meanwhile part. Haha.

Excellent playing. And loved the video also with the still shots added. And also loved the “and meanwhile in Australia”!
