Beautiful Soft E Minor Impro
« on: November 07, 2017, 08:01:01 pm »
Ok well that's what the BT title said !

Hot on the heels of my October Competition Entry and wow 2nd recording of the year, here's another G Major/E Minor impro over a wonderful emotive track. As I said in my comp entry I've been downloading tracks to play over and trimming them down to some, in my opinion cool toons.

Given the quality of that comp entry ( https://justinguitarcommunity.com/index.php?topic=42421.msg371889#msg371889 if you aint heard it ) I reached out to my good old colab buddy Roman for some advice and various versions of this piece.

Well after listening to some of the major fubas I'd made with this and settling on a half decent recording, he has trimmed, tidied, aligned and revolumized if there is such a word, to arrive at what I think is yet another high end Schlaffenwagen Production.

Its streets ahead of the versions I sent him and way better than my last recording. So enjoy this Romanized Impro.

Note this is another horizontal CAGED pattern exercise and pre the discussion with TB Stitch et al. It feels like it works but I can see, staying in one place makes more sense - Yes TB I was listening ! Anyway I will now be working on vertical scales and will attempt the next impro in that vain.

As was said by someone not so long ago, the more I learn, the more I learn there's much more to learn.

Old dog new tricks.

Toby

Congratulations on your second recording for this year 😉 I really liked it. Simple with no complications. I’m glad that you’re showing interest in improvising. It’s nice, isn’t? 😬

Thank you for sharing it, Toby 😎

Very well produced and an enjoyable listen.

Nice and easy there, Toby. That was a nice example on how to ease into solo playing and getting the intervals under your fingers.
You had a single go at legato and I think you should explore that some more. It adds spice to any solo.
Good work!

Well played, Toby, lovely melody.

Could easily imagine how that would sound with some lyrics being sung, basis for a beautiful song.

Thanks for the comments folks, I've another few tracks in the pipeline but I'm going to start working on TBs advice, playing different shapes in position for a while before the next project.

You had a single go at legato and I think you should explore that some more. It adds spice to any solo.
Good work!

Yes I did get a bit carried away with this one !  ;)

I know these last 2 tracks are crying out for some bends, slides and hammers etc but the priority was working the scales. I've a feel over where things would have worked if my techniques was up to it but again all down to practice.

Anyway glad you enjoyed it,

Cheers

Toby, very nice, smooth, shall I say,  performance. I very much enjoyed listening to this track.  It would be interesting to hear the pre-Romanized track.  I don’t think you’re giving yourself enough credit for this.

@OH/Dave - no I seriously overcooked the mixing on this adding way too many plugins. Having worked with Roman a few times now and him reaching out to me to offer help was a no brainer. The end result is a more simpler approach that I can now carry forward to other projects.

@Clare glad you like it and yes with practice the techniques will come. I've largely ignored them for a year while focusing just on CAGED, now its time to put them back into the practice schedule and start slowly adding them into the mix. Watch this space.

@Loefgren - cheers for that ;D

@Mari - Thank you. As for BTs there are loads out there on youtube, different styles and keys. Just a case of finding what floats your boat. I also have an app on the PC that converts YT urls to MP3 which can then be loaded into my DAW (Reaper), which is what I did here. I've about 60+ G Major / minor tracks, which I've reduced to around 6, that should stretch me but at one point I just loaded the lot up into WMP and just improed over what ever came up. Great fun and a good learning process. If you need any help tracking tracks or converting let me know - here or pm.

Cheers

Toby if there's one piece of advice I would give anyone wanting to Solo I would say something really simple, don't get too involved in theory and overcomplicate it, learn to feel it and always remember that if it feels good it is good...... end of; solos are a personal thing, not to be compared with what everyone else does, individualism rules ;)
