009 October 2017 12 Bar Blues Contest Entry

Here is my entry for the October Contest, I used the 12 bar blues backing track. I found it pretty hard to solo consistently for 2 minutes straight but hopefully I ended up with something halfway coherent.

Quick first response.
Well done for getting the ball rolling this month.
Good vibes.
Some decent licks etc in there and the improv had a coherent narrative structure.
You played sympathetically to the track.
You used space and silence well.
Nice one.

Well played, Derek.

Had a great bluesy feel and worked well over the backing track.  I liked the number of notes you played ... not too many super fast flurries which I think worked really well.

If I have to pick a nit ... I'd have enjoyed it more if the volume level of the backing track was a little lower.

Great job

Really good stuff Derek. I've no idea how to solo so this seems like magic to me.

Hey Gareth,

Not sure where you are in the learning journey ... I suspect Beginner Course around stage 7/8 (like me)?  If so, then you could always ask Justin to give you an intro lesson into the "dark" arts of solo'ing using minor pentatonic, based on the stage 7 and 8 lessons  ;)

I'm consolidating the beginners course at the moment. Don't really feel ready for soloing yet that seems a long long way off.

DerekN, Nice job, and yes, it does sound choherent - and very blusey.  I really like the sound of your guitar on this.
