Which strings
« on: April 19, 2017, 12:02:35 pm »
Hi all, I've been looking at recommended items to get on justing site as I intend to change stings on my ES-339 but, not sure if I should get acoustic strings or electric.

Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things..

Was looking at these.

Yes it does matter. Electric guitar strings go on an electric guitar.

Well, you could actually use electric guitar strings on an acoustic, but not necessarily use acoustic guitar strings on an electric.  Electric guitars need strings that are magnetically attracted for the coils to pick up the vibrations of the strings.  But you could use electric guitar strings on an acoustic.  However, they often tend to be lighter gauge strings and likely will sound a little tinny and probably won't have the depth of sound you would expect as the acoustic needs more meat (for lack of a better word) to drive the sounds.  Some people adjust for using electric strings on an electric acoustic by upping the volume and messing with the equalizer.
I will eventually play as well as David Gilmour - even if it takes me another 40 years.

The waters are being muddied here by too much information.

Your guitar is a semi-hollow electric. You need electric strings.

The only other considerations are string gauge, construction, and manufacturer.

EXL110s are a good all round choice. If you prefer 10s and not a lighter or heavier gauge.

Agreed. I ordered to 10s but lighter may be better but I'll try those for now and see how it goes. Thanks for your reply.
