002 March 2017 Same Old Road
« on: March 03, 2017, 05:50:33 pm »
Here's a song I wrote a little while ago and never quite knew what to do with it.  It's not my typical style, but I thought it turned out pretty good.  Every instrument was played by me and there's a sound clip in it from a speech given and I hope that doesn't disqualify the entry, if so, it was fun anyway.

Also, it's old, but it was written when I first started coming to the forums, and I used everything Justin taught me early on.  So in that sense, it applies I guess.

Either way, I at least hope you enjoy what the song says.

Great job Endureth. Thought it was nicely put together all around and as an original must surely get a bonus point.

Great way to kick off the March entries.
As to the sample and the rules ... mmmhh .... chin-scratching time as I'm not sure.
i'd like it to be allowed as it's not really a collab.
And it's all original.
Thumbs up sir.

samples are a big part of original compositions, as long as it's not copyright surely this should be encouraged?

Really cool song, Endureth.  Your use of the samples is a clever idea.

Comments on your mix:  your balance of guitar, bass, and drums is great. I especially liked your drum sound.  My only point for improvement is that the mix sounded too heavy on the right channel with the electric guitar out wide; maybe you could balance the left out with another layered guitar.

Wow, I never noticed that.  Yeah, if I were to re-do it I would definitely address that.  Nice catch.

Crikey, this is a blast from the past.

Was well thought out then - and seems more relevant than ever now.

Good to hear an original in the comp.

Took me back to the 1960s, great song. On my system the sample sounds just a little louder than the rest of the song. If its the same on your system I think the levels should be a little closer together.

Like this! :)

Dig the sample - where's it from?

Solid playing all around, nice bass parts too, well constructed and sit well with the kit?

The guitar is a bit right heavy but could be balanced with a different instrument.

I'd try a bit of parallel compression on the drums and bass buss to get it even fatter.

But very cool overall!

Love the breakdown when the guitar drops out - no reflection your playing (of course!) but it really opens it up before the stabby section brings it back. Glad you did that - well produced!

The sample came from here.  This was pretty much the inspiration for the song.
