How does Justin play that riff at the end of the video after Bm when he play only the open fourth and second string without touching the third string? Does he mute it with his right hand, since his left hand isn't on the neck?

@NoIdea

Those riffs are played using something called 6ths / sixths.

You need to either use pick & one finger or two fingers. They are not strummed usually and if they are you absolutely need to do some left-hand muting to stop the string inbetween ringing out.

He explains how to do it at 13:34 of the video.

Just wondering which spiral bound songbook has Proud Mary by CCR ?
I was going to post in the song area, but I didn't see a post button.

Hi bsmooth. Proud Mary is in the Justin Beginner’s Songbook volume 2. It’s fairly straightforward, you’ll need C, A, G, F, D, A7 but also has Bm in it. Don’t know if you’ve covered barre chords yet.

He’s also got a song lesson here

Yea still struggling with barre chords, maybe not the bar chords themselves, but getting in and out of them.
That and getting the strumming right including palming the strings. I either seem to get the Proud Mary palm version or no palming at all.
 Justin's video lesson was great, always makes it look so easy, just to have to take it one step at a time.
I think 'll invest in the 2 first song books, at least the spiral versions anyways. Probably no one uses songbooks anymore, but I've been using them for a long time.
Thanks
Bruce

Hi bsmooth. I highly recommend Justin’s songbooks. Unlike most other books which only give you the lyrics and chords, Justin’s songbooks include lots of playing hints and tips with suggested strumming patterns etc. When used alongside the videos (he’s done a video lesson for a lot of the songbook songs) you’ve really got the best system for learning.

He’s stopped selling his books from his online shop but they are still available from Andertons and Amazon.

Im like you, I prefer ‘hard copy’, probably an age thing, although some of the online resources nowadays are terrific.
