Oh, that video has 1.1k thumbs down. Haha.

Ah... but 70K thumbs up!  :D
I've seen Focus twice live and Mr. Thijs van Leer is still as mad and energetic as four decades ago.
Go see them if you get the chance  :)

Evening all. So I've seen Justin's email and it's scuppered my plans. I was planning to get my girlfriend to join the forum but I see she had to have been a member by 1st October. Nuts. So I'm back on the market. I can sort of sing and I play guitar but I've only been going just shy of two years. I've not got any recording equipment apart from a phone and no DAW hence why I was going to work with my girlfriend. I'm not sure how a distance collaboration would work but I'm open to suggestions. Or maybe there's a forum member in Leicestershire that wants to do something.

Only one of you has to be registered before October 1st. So you two can still join competition.

But if you want to do another collab, I am up for it. Phone recordings are fine as well :).

I haven't got the newsletter yet so haven't seen Justin's exact words.

Could someone please quote it here.

Thanks

"Rules are - at least 2 members of the forum for each entry (max 5), one of which must have been a member before Oct 1st (so if you're new you need to make some friends real fast!). Must be somehow related to Christmas, a carol, or pop hit or something. Not more than 3 minutes long (makes it hard to judge) and closing date is December 18."

Richard, here is what you wrote:

"ANNOUNCEMENT for OCT-NOV-DEC

For the final competition period of 2018 the competition is opened out in the following way:

For the first time the competition is not limited to single-person entries.
In fact the opposite.
We are looking for instrumental only recordings (no vocals required) that must be collaborations between two or more forum members.

Please record a tune / melody / song that is seasonal / festive and submit before the closing deadline of Sunday 16th December.

Entries must be a festive / seasonal / Christmas tune recorded as a collaboration between two or more forum members

And watch out for an announcement on some slightly different, cool and fab prizes. ;)"

Looks like what we have here is a failure to communicate. Haha.

Justin didn't mention that it has to be an instrumental, and you didn't mention the 3 minute limit. Have I got that right?

Lynn

Hot diggity dog

Instrumental ... definitely ... no getting around the fact that Justin seems to have omitted that essential info

Forum members ... you can easily ask any one that isn't to sign up

3 minutes ... easy :- miss out a verse or two

Just call me Mr Fixit ha ha

Behind the scenes discussions going on in light of the Newsletter having gone out …

There may be a new, slightly amended announcement soon.

It most certainly will not rule anything out.

It may rule something new in.

Ah so I can rope in the missus. She'll be pleased she's been practising.....not enough. Better watch what i say if she's joining.

I did have another idea for a song when I thought I was collaborating. We can't enter two collaborations can we close?

At the end of my lesson with Justin, he popped out a "look forward to hearing you in the next Contest".  I said I was ineligible.  He said, well you can't win but you can participate.  But it being a collaboration complicates that "participating and not eligible to win" dynamic in my mind.

Richard, what's your take ... if somebody was looking for a collaborator and they were considering me (or vice versa) ... could they still be in contention while I am not?

I don't have anything specific in mind, just putting it out there ... same would go for other winners ... hmm, there's a thought ...

Pam/Max, did you have any thoughts/ideas?  Based on Justin's comment we could produce something and given we are all ineligible that being ion contention would be a non issue?

Oh holy mama … now you're asking the hard questions David !!!  :o :o :o :o :o ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

I will check with Justin.
I'm wondering if the rule book can be amended to accommodate previous winners this time due to the team nature of the collaboration.

Bear with me.

At least 2 of the entrants must be forum members, one of whom must have been a member before October 1st.
Quick question, as I would not want to 'disgruntle' anyone:

I unexpectedly teamed up with Fourtwo (Neil) the other day to enter the competition. We have been in touch and I have written what I reckon is the bulk of the lyrics along with the structure (Yay me! 8)); he will be looking after the production end (as well as everything else I can't do)
I have a good friend who lives nearby and plays guitar (competently). In fact, he suggested this website to me when I started out. He is not a member of the forum.
I would very much like to ask him to co-write the music with with me (Lennon/McCartney ;)). I think I would learn a lot, but more importantly, it would be good fun.
Who knows, we might even gain a new member to the forum?

I would do the vocals and we would both 'play' guitar and send it off to Neil.

Is that within (the spirit of) the rules?

Cheers

Both you and FourTwo have been members from before the cut off point.
All is good.

Any female forum members like to add a vocal to a song that 2 forum members are collaborating on? It will be great fun.

If we don’t find anyone do the rules allow me to as my daughter in law?

Congratulations to all entrants in the Christmas collaboration for our festive competition.

The prizes will surprise and delight … some virtual, some actual 'things'.

Good luck all.
