First time on the forum, how's everyone doing?

I had a doubt regarding lick #1. When I play it the way Justin first demonstrates it, the rhythm doesn't seem to follow the suggested "1 and 2 and 3 4". When I do play it in that rhythm, the lick sounds...off, for a lack of a better word.

Does anyone have an insight on this?

Hello Quack, welcome to the forum.
Honestly, for now, forget the count.
Just play the lick.
Play it slow.
Play it fast.
Play it until it speaks to you.
Then, when you play it over a backing track try playing it over the I chord, the IV chord, the V chord.
Does it work on all?
Play it free time - how does that work out for you?
Then try thinking about the count and being 'precise'.
Do you feel, hear, notice differences?
Are any of them wrong / right, better / best?

For lick 4 how do I speed it up on a backing track without being out of time?
