Issue With YouTube Uploads Hanging At 95%
« on: October 29, 2015, 05:50:33 am »
I followed the instructions that were included in the WCAS Adrenaline remix folder and rendered the video.

Quote
1. Open QuickTime7
2. from the FILE menu at the top, select OPEN FILE - and navigate where your Image
file (IMAGE NAME??) is stored.
3. Then - again from the FILE menu at the top, select OPEN FILE - and navigate where
your AUDIO/remix file is stored.
4. Once your Audio file is open you will see a little QT player window. Go to EDIT menu
at the top and click 'SELECT ALL'. In the player window You will see the little markers
are now marking the beginning and end of your audio file.
5. Again - from the EDIT menu click 'COPY'.
6. Now click on the QT window with the Image File that you opened, and From the EDIT
menu click 'ADD TO MOVIE'.
7. Now when you Press play (or Spacebar) on the Image window you should hear the
audio playing. Great!
Now we need to Export this combined file. Do Not simply click Save or save as.. This
will not work.
8. From the FILE menu click 'EXPORT FOR WEB'
9. Type the file name you wish to title it, ie, John's Shattered Matter Remix Movie', just
beneath the title location select 'WHERE' on your hard drive you want your file saved
(and remember this location)
10. EXPORT VERSIONS FOR - here you can deselect iPhone & iPhone cellular, and
ONLY have 'DESKTOP' checked. You only need this one version! THEN CLICK
EXPORT!! Done!
You can now go into your YouTube account click 'UPLOAD' and locate to where the file
you just created is saved and upload.
Remember to add links and description in the YouTube box, and also in the Tags field
beneath add 'We Came As Strangers', Eyedom, Adrenaline remix, remix competition,
.... and any others you wish. Each time you type a 'comma symbol' it will create a new
tag!
And Voila..! Your remix audio and movie file should be public on YouTube..

I didn't have Quicktime 7 so I downloaded and installed it - only to find that to use the "Select All" option listed in the instructions, that that feature was only available in the Pro version.... So I went to purchase the Pro version. That required creating an Apple ID. I created and verified my new Apple ID. Then tried to purchase the Quicktime Pro 7 application online. I clicked the Windows version of the app, and then clicked the "buy now" button. Nothing happened. Tried the Chrome browser instead of FireFox. Same thing. So I called Apple Tech Support. I got someone on the phone who BARELY spoke English. After explaining my dilema, she had me try several things. None of them worked. So she told me that the download wouldn't work unless I was using an apple devise. I suggested that her diagnosis must be flawed. Surely a person wouldn't be required to use an Apple computer to download an application designed to be used on a PC. She connected me to an Apple Tech SPECIALIST. After listening to some crappy music for a half hour or so, a young man who spoke perfect English greeted me and I asked if it was possible to purchase Quicktime Pro 7 for Windows using a PC. He assured me that it was... So I went through the steps with him that I had already done several times.. I was unable to sign in using my Apple ID to purchase QT Pro. But I was able to sign in to Apple ID to change settings. Ended up purchasing the app over the phone using a credit card. Wrote down the authorization code and upgraded QT 7 to QT Pro 7.

Should be good to go now right??

Followed the above instructions and exported the file for Web... But when I uploaded the video, YouTube hung at 95%

I deleted the video and tried several times to re-upload it, and tried several other solutions that I had found using Google. I even re-followed and re-rendered the video using the above instructions a couple times.. No luck.

Finally gave up and imported the image and audio into Windows Movie Maker and rendered it as an MP4. That file uploaded and processed on YouTube no problem..

So.....

Now that I have QT Pro, I'm wondering if the above instructions are valid? Do I need to use the "Export" option instead of "Export for Web" option in Quicktime Pro? What gives??

I dream of a better tomorrow where chickens can cross roads without their motives being questioned.

Boy Scooter,
You sure went through the wringer on this one.
I am not up on your software package so cannot offer specific help there. But you mentioned you re-rendered the file. Was that to the same specs as the first attempt? If so you might try some different settings.

I use Sony Vegas and it is an older version (11). So the direct upload to YouTube function no longer works. But if I render to an MP4 and then do a manual upload to YT it works fine. Not sure why your chocking at 95%.... Have you tried a Google on your issue?

It can be tough  on video stuff sometimes. In Vegas there are a ton of rendering export choices and I am never sure of exactly what one to use. But so far all has been well.

Good luck,
LB

It didn't appear that there were any format/rendering options in the "Export for Web" option that was in the instructions. There are different format conversion options - just not using that particular option (as far as I could tell.) I tried a couple of them, and had the same result with YouTube. I read the YouTube format requirements and it should have accepted an MP4 - but the MP4 encoding options that I had set in Quicktime didn't work... So I just did the whole project in WMM and rendered it there..

I just remembered that I have Wirecast, and I think it uses some Quicktime features.... but I didn't have to purchase Quicktime Pro for Wirecast to use the Quicktime features that it needed. I could have created the video in Wirecast too...  Probably shouldn't have paid for Quictime Pro - but the "select all" option that's listed in the WCAS mix-off instructions wasn't available in the free Quicktime version.

I get that once in a while, but I think it is more related to the upload than the file. Usually if I just try to upload the same video again, it works.

So are you windows or Apple?

I just used Windows Movie Maker - worked fine.

Uploaded to YT ok - though my mix sounds weird on some devices. Sounds fine through the PC

I tried that several times.. What was odd was that the upload status bar showed the file uploading way faster than it should have, then it just hung at 95%. I also tried a couple different formats using the Quicktime encoder and they didn't work either - but when I used WMM it worked. I did a bit more checking and it seems that it MAY be a YouTube bug.. but it's been around for at least five years so I would think it's more likely that it has something to do with the encoding format... I dunno..

I'm using a Windows 10 PC. Mine works fine using Windows Movie Maker too. For some reason YT doesn't seem to like the videos that I've encoded using QT.

I guess I'll just use WMM.. Hopefully others won't run into the same issues.

I would not "Export for WEB" ... I would just "Export" to your desired format.

The goal is to simply get the jpeg and audio in one mp4 file and upload to YT. There are a myriad of ways to get there.

However, I don't use QT other than to play some things occasionally.

Also don;t be fooled by that initially fast upload... you may have to wait a good while.

Yeah.. I suspect that if I hadn't used the "export for web" option and had used one of the other options - with the correct parameters set - that it would eventually have worked.  It would be interesting to see if someone who doesn't already have Quicktime on a PC runs into the same issues that I had with the "select all" feature only being supported in the Pro version, and with the "Export for Web" encoding.

Yes, "select all" and many of the features in QT are only in the PRO version. The non-PRO in windows is rather limited.

That's all you get.

If all else fails render in whatever windows deal you can do and then convert in HandBrake.

I can just use WMM or Wirecast..  I was going to do that originally - but when I read the instructions I thought maybe they wanted everyone to use the same format for the contest..

Thanks..

FWIW: If anyone else has installed Quicktime for Windows and is still using it, it should be uninstalled now.
