ISO files on my new Mac.
« on: July 17, 2015, 10:39:18 am »
Hi all,

I am a bit of a technophobe so there is probably a simple answer to my question.

I have recently switched from a windows Laptop to a Macbook air, I have copied my iso files of Justins lessons to the mac, installed a virtual drive but they insist on not opening, unrecognised files apparently. Any suggestions, or should I just buy them again and do a direct download to the mac?

Cheers
Gary

Why not just use disk utility, under /Applications/Utilities/, or simply go into terminal and type
Code: [Select]
cd 'path to .iso file here' (for example, if it's on the desktop , it's cd ~/Desktop ), then type
Code: [Select]
hdiutil mount 'name of .iso file here without quotes'

@gary.
If you need to play the DVD as a video with the interactive menu I would recommend you to install VLC player (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html).
Once the player is installed, double click on the iso file (this should mount the iso as a virtual drive).
Start VLC and click on File->Open Disk and then click on "open".
Let me know if you managed to get this working.

Thanks you both for your ideas, they all work but it does appear that all but one of my ISO files are corrupt and I cannot use them at all, even on an old windows PC.

I tried to buy them again, but he site is no longer offering the products as a download.

I am going to buy an external DVD drive and purchase the actual hard copies.

Gary,
If your missing the original ISO files and need them again. I would contract Justin. Pretty sure there is a spot on the board here for it. Just tell him (or whoever) what happened and you will likely get replacement files without the additional expense of buying them again. Better to spend the money on a new songbook or some other nice item Justin has for sale.

Good Luck,

I think that LBro is right: you should be able to download again the ISOs without buying them again.
I was just wondering why your ISO files got corrupted, and I came out with this idea:
did you copy those iso files on a USB sticks (fat32 filesystem) when migrating from your window machine?
If so, you have to consider that single files bigger than 4GB cannot be stored on such a kind of filesystem.
Sorry for pointing this out, but I think that this could help you to prevent future losses.
