Deathbuckers
« on: November 22, 2014, 06:14:40 pm »
Has anyone tried these and do they really live up to what is claimed?

I have a plan in mind for the future for the ultimate metal guitar sound and I was thinking of a Les Paul with 3 pickups. I was thinking 2 Deathbuckers and an Allumitone in the middle. Maybe 3 Deathbuckers would be a bit of overkill? If 3 Deathbuckers would work that's be shattering :)

I'm very curious about these and yet to come across anyone who's tried them.

Compared to things like the BKP Warpig, Juggernaut, Black Hawk and Aftermath, or ye olde EMG active pickups, things like the Railhammer pickups, or even standard stuff like Seymour Duncan ?
I'd say they're not even close to good.
They lack so many things a good pickup for metal should have that it's not even funny.
Their output is abysmal, their tonal characteristics flat, and their live performance so utterly lacklustre that the other guitarist in my band, who sadly bought into the hype, at one point during a recent gig threw his Agile AL3100 into it's case hard enough to crack the headstock, and then grabbed a Squier Telecaster equipped with a BKP Pig90.
Reason why ?
His guitar was drowned out by the bass and my guitar playing, and even 10 minutes of tweaking the EQ's *during a break* didn't help.

Very interesting Dan, thank you.

I was actually looking at some Seymour Duncan pickups the other day and they're far cheaper than Lace ones yet if they're better quality that says a lot.

I'm not in any rush for this project as I have 4 good guitars so when I get round to this I'll have had the chance to do the research properly.

Many thanks for the suggestions :)
