Youtube schmootube ... it is absolutely pants - help?
« on: March 28, 2014, 06:36:14 pm »
Youtube is absolute pants lately.

The screen freezes.

Videos stop before they start.

And this applies to every single page.

Even pages you have been on, gone away from and return to with the back button.

Is it just me?

@C2U,  I haven't noticed anything like that in the States.   ???
...where the deer and the antelope play.  Well, they're not really playing.  They're fleeing in terror.

Be sure Flash is updated.

Also I have noticed or think that some ad block vs new ad tech likes to fight with each other causing YT to not act right.

And therein lies the problem I reckon. I've had loads of "Flash plugin has stopped working" messages lately.

... or all the videos you're trying to watch are HTML while your browser is looking for flash. Check here : http://www.youtube.com/html5?gl=FR

Or are you talking about this site? Does seem that implanted videos are not working on these boards.

I have had trouble with chrome and YouTube lately. Updated flash cleared the cache etc..... Still no joy so I started using IE and had no problems.

Try this:

1. Open a new tab in Chrome.

2. In the address bar, type about:plugins, then press Enter.

3. In the upper-right corner of the window, locate and click the plus sign next to Details.

4. Look for Adobe Flash Player, which on my system was the top entry. Immediately below that, you should see two Shockwave Flash entries. Look at the Location lines for both; you want the one that references PepperFlash. (Again, on my system, this was the first of the two. It looked like this:

C:\Users\Aspire8950\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\ 24.0.1312.52\PepperFlash\pepflashplayer.dll)

5. Once you find that entry, click Disable.

6. Exit Chrome, wait a few seconds for it to fully terminate, and then restart it.

Then try Chrome. Also, wired or wireless? Have you checked your download sped?

Unless there are external imperatives which mean you have to use IE, it's best to have two or three different ones. When one doesn't work, another one usually will. Sometimes updates will slow a browser down or screw up one or another of the vital plug-ins, so it's good to have another an alternative handy until the developers sort things out (which can take a long time, with the overall tendency to bloat).

Is it just me?

Well....... I guess we answered that question.....

Have you tried shutting down everything for about a 1/2 hour. ISP modem, Router, computers, everything.

I have had occasions where the ISP has done something and everything just needs a good reset. I say a 1/2 hour just to be absolutely sure if the ISP is doing something it decides to stop and then when you fire it all back up it starts fresh.

PC and laptop are wireless ... but I have done speed tests and they come back as 'excellent'

I tried the flash update

I tried the alternative youtube video viewer

Still lots of frozen screen time and hanging

Will re-try and alternative browser .. I used mozilla and what's that other one like mozilla firefox but 'lighter' on the system? Dan Graves recommended it some time back.
