Running out of ideas for this exercise, but really want to keep at it. Anyone have any suggestions? Can't bring myself to do Christmas songs when its 85 F outside.  :)

Just iwanted to say, what a great exercise! I just did Happy Birthday, the first two parts went easily enough, but that last part was intersting. I ended up being a little off on some of the notes, but not bad. The only thing I had "wrong" aside from those few notes was I was playing in G instead of C.

Even though it's a simple song, it was so satisfying to realize I could figure it out that quickly. I hope we get more exercises like this.

Is it a good idea to transcribe a tab as you go along. Even with happy birthday, by the time I got half way through I had forgotten the start.

It couldn't hurt. It would probably even be helpful in the long run since it is such a common method for writing out guitar parts.
