That's awesome Cue! I was listening to a bluegrass cover recently - Punch Brothers covering Wilco!

The Punch Brothers are amazing. I really like Chris Thile's other band, Nickel Creek too.

But have you heard this one too, then?

Ooh I hadn't heard that one! Very nice! I like Nickel Creek too, though my very favourite bluegrassy thing in the world is Chris Eldridge's side project with Julian Lage. This is technically still on topic for the thread, as it is a Seldom Scene cover ;)

Those solos are absolutely nuts! Superb!

Have you heard Nickel Creek's most recent album? I.e. ever since they got back together a few months back? That was really quite interesting - I had just liked their page on Facebook despite knowing that they disbanded. A few days/weeks later I saw the announcement that they were getting the band back together. I wish I could see them but they wouldn't sell many tickets in The Netherlands I'm afraid.

To stay on topic - here's Hayloft off of said album, originally a Mother Mother song. I'd call it more poppy than bluegrassy, but I like it.

I haven't heard it, but saw from Chris Thile's twitter that there was another Nickel Creek album (and incidentally that Punch Bros are currently recording their next!). I should check it out.  I'm in London so really spoilt with the bands that come through here! My next gig is the Jayhawks next month. I'm super excited :D

Here they are covering Bad Time by Grand Funk:

Loved it! :)

BTW, besides the C and the E-shaped barre chords, what are the other chord shapes that he's using?
(I've only played it with C,G,AM,F)

I'm terrible at trying to pick out chords people are playing (that should be an instructional video series of its own). I do love that song and cover though, and he's doing a great job with the 'boot bass' keeping the song grounded. That's a cool street technique to pick up.

@Scooter... my eyesight not so good on this one and forgetting about the capo.... it looks like he is playing maybe a Bb minor or Bbm7  -- which is E Shape and the chord name may be off due to capo.

Also it looks like he plays an A shape with 3 fingers AND index on the high e only... that is a Dd again adjust for capo up or down a note.

Then an F

Let's see.. if you play C G Am F

He plays an F and it looks like capo so F#, then a Db would be a D, the Bb would be a B

D, - , Bm, F#  ... and doesn't he play an A So D A Bm F#  maybe that F# is a G... Anyway it looks like he is playing the same thing you do only pitched up a whole tone.

The only unusual chord is the three finger A shape

That guy actually sounds a bit like Bob.

Thanks Mouser and TB.
I get that it's all shifted up a half step.. but I'm having trouble finding what chord he's playing after the G# barre chord to get the A#minor.

Those are the only chords I see.

Give me a time stamp if those aren't the ones.

Spasm by the East River String Band, with Robert Crumb sitting in:

Which is a cover of Daddy Stovepipe's 1935 recording :

been working on Stairway for a while, and was looking at alternate versions of the song. I know the song's been done to death, but this just blew me away.

If was looking for different versions of 'Sunny' and I think that is one of the best versions of that awesome song. Well it's just my opinion ;).

Halestorm does some of the best covers in the world. I may have posted a couple of these in anoth thread a while ago, but they bear repeating.

No one does a good GnR cover, right?

Yeah, but clearly they can't do that and follow it up with a solid AC/DC cover

Skid Row? Ok

One could spend hours looking up their covers. Lady Gaga, Daft Punk, Pat Benetar, Fleetwood Mac, Cinderella, Marylin Manson, and loads of others.

EDIT-

Heres a young very talented french guitarist showing all his skills playing all the instruments in the classic hendrix little wing.

Love the build up and then lets rip at the 1:50 mark

His awesomeness in butchering one of the most beautiful songs ever written is outstanding. Man... that really was not what I was expecting.

Different strokes I suppose...  I wish he had showed off only some of his skills and not put all of them on one song.

He needs to listen to some of Justin's sublime and tasty guitar playing on the WCAS CDs. Maybe pick up a few pointers.

as you say different strokes for different  folk , i dont see any butchering just someone with a lot of talent, some people can see it some cant. Fender did and gave him a sponsorship deal.

They gave him a sponsorship deal for that song!   I never said he had no talent. He probably does a mean cover of Eruption... but damn not on Little Wing.

This offering sounds a 1000% better in my opinion.
